Hi, just wondering how long OEM rotors should last? I've seen everything from 50k-100k miles advised (my car is currently at 53k and dealer is saying they're warped), both sets of brake pads are under 10k miles old and were replaced before the sensor went off (stupid me). Thanks!

And if they turn out to be right and I do need them replaced...any suggestions for which ones I should get? Nothing crazy, something close in cost to stock ones but I just really don't want to go back to the dealer...

Depending how you drive (and brake), 53k seems pretty respectable to me for rotor life (hell, I'm happy if I get 30-35k miles out of mine the way I drive). 2 mos ago I did new brakes on my A4 avant (35k since the last time): Akebono pads and Zimmerman plain rotors all around. For an OEM-like replacement rotor at a reasonable price, I like the Zimmermans. But any brand name rotor should be fine - do a little online searching and you'll find plenty to choose from.

Rotor replacement should really be determined by the manufacture suggested minimum wear thickness. Once the rotors are at or below that level they should be replaced regardless of mileage.

We have a few different options for replacement rotors check them out below!

It all depends. I replaced ALL pads and rotors (Audi dealer parts) at 34,000 miles for a road trip. At the time the rear rotors were below 4mm and pads were also getting thin. I can probably squeeze another 5-7K out of it but might as well since they were squealing a little during light stops.

I got about 80K out of my stock rotors and pads. Being manual and engine braking on the regular probably helped.

I am at 90K miles and still on original front rotors, back rotor were changed at maybe 70k miles. I have changed my pads only once and I did it even though they were still good to reduce visible brake dust.

If your rotors are warped you should be able to feel it when braking lightly. Especially if it s the front.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, independent mechanic said new brakes were not needed at this point, and I don't feel brake judder or anything like that (and from the outside they look totally normal...have not actually crawled under the car myself though). I guess shouldn't be surprised that it was another dealer ploy to wring more money out of me (they claimed ALL of them were warped)...but was good to find out when I could potentially expect to have to replace them, should I keep the car that long (I want to, but am starting to think it might end up being prohibitively expensive for me to do so. Ugh).
