How much power is this core good for? Could it handle K04 or GTRS power?

Hey guys!

Looks like I missed a couple of questions in this thread and I would like to answer them.

We wanted to bring a FMIC Kit for the B7 A4 2.0T that is proven to fit and work as described for a price that does not break the bank. To do this, we went with a popular core that we sourced which multiple companies have had success with across different platforms. During the months of testing and all of 1/4mile runs we have done(including several record setting runs) with this FMIC installed on multiple cars we determined that this is a solid intercooler upgrade for all K03/K04 cars. Once we have finished testing with larger turbo setups we will be able to supply information on how big of a turbo you can run on this core.

We will also be looking into a bigger core solution for those of you looking to run pretty good size turbos and more information will be released on this as we get closer. For now, this is a PROVEN FMIC Kit for the B7 A4 2.0T (K03/K04) as you can see it played a big part in helping us achieve our stock turbo (also full interior) record setting 1/4mile ET run of 13.3sec.

Jake

Jake when can we expect JHM to break into the 12's with the a4?

Jake@JHM

Probably this year =]

I bet we could do it with a K03, but that would be a tune that we could not sell to the public and the K03 would not last too long. It is time now to start really evaluating what turbo option we are going to go with next so we can offer a proven B7 A4 2.0T Turbo Kit and have a Tuning/Fueling kit to go along with it.

yep, all about reducing "heatsoak"

basically the stock SMICs can only last so long on a tuned turbo (heat wise)

do a few back to back runs in a tuned car with SMICs and you'll notice what I'm talking about

Small amount of trimming to the plastic on the core support. It's not 100% needed to be done but it really helps with fitment. Sizing of the pipes are 2.5".

what is this kit rated for cfm wise ? also any chance of offering it in a black / powdercoated option

"- Our kit requires NO bumper cutting and only minor plastic trimming of the core support. "

Can you elaborate on the trimming required? Doesnt the stock IC piping run through the core support? Does the trimming compromise this (in case someone ever wanted to revert to stock).

Hmm, I just noticed it is not on our website. I will look it up for you! However, like I said previously it works very well for the k03/k04 style turbos since that it what we have tested it on. It may work well for the 28 series turbos as well, but we will have a larger core option in the future for bigger turbos.

It is basically a half circle cut to allow the IC pipe to bend smoothly to the FMIC. You can install it without trimming, but it fits much better in the car with the little trimming we recommend.

Thanks - but my primary question is if this trimming renders the stock set up then useless, as its my understanding that the stock intercooler piping flows through the front clip.

Jake@JHM
01-22-2014, 04:25 PM
Right, the intercooler pipe that is fixed to the core support is not touched. After having our FMIC installed, you can revert back to stock at anytime without any issues (as long as you saved all of the stock parts).

I will upload a picture the installation of this kit on my car so you can see the pipe and where the plastic gets trimmed. I trimmed a bit more than was necessary and even then it isn't very much.

TIA

Right now we are only selling this a complete set. In the future we may offer pipe kits like we did with the B5 S4.

We will be testing the limits of this core soon, and if need be will will make a larger core option that will work with the original piping.

Just put in my order and I'm looking forward to receiving the kit! How long would you say it would take an average person to do the install? I have a buddy of mine helping out and some Rhino Ramps to elevate the car. This is really going to help with these 110 degree Arizona temperatures!

Awesome, thanks for your order! Average install should take only 3-4 hours if you have the proper tools.

Some more technical info on the site would be nice like cfm, fin density, maybe a log or two on iat, type of core, etc. Looking into this but not much info on that side for comparison/research/curiousity. Not hating but would love some technical specs! Good work Jake and products I have gotten from you were awesome so this went on my buy list!

Hard to tell from the pic but bar and plate maybe? Pretty much all I can gather from that and it's just a guess.

Fmic is tempting.. I'm pretty sure I'm experiencing heat soak. The other day it was 90 degrees and I was stopped at a light and when I went to accelerate it felt smooth (no misfires or anything) but weak. Like noticeably weaker and its consistently like that after my car is stopped for too long. Would the fmic help with this? I'm assuming so but since the car is stopped my iats go over 130 degrees sometimes according to dash command.

https://jhmotorsports.com/products/pictures/FMIC/B7-A4-20T/JHM-B7-A4-20T-FMIC-Large-Core-Inst-Dru's-Car.jpg

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Precision Fit MAP Sensor Hole featuring identical to OEM sizing ensuring the tightest fit possible.

https://jhmotorsports.com/products/pictures/B7A4/JHM-B7-A4-20T-FMIC-kit-map-sens-hole-detail.jpg

- JHM Ambient Temperature Sensor Bracket allowing for proper relocation of Ambient Temperature Sensor (Note: Ambient temperature sensor is NOT INCLUDED and shown for descriptive purposes only).

- Customized end tank ensuring maximum clearance, the best possible fitment, and the most cost savings for a large core FMIC. The AC line connection on the lower portion of the driver side of the condenser prevents most larger, generic intercooler cores from fitting well. Our JHM Large Core FMIC has a customized driver side end tank allowing us to install a large core intercooler in the optimal location.

https://jhmotorsports.com/products/pictures/FMIC/B7-A4-20T/JHM-B7-A4-20T-FMIC-Large-Core-AC-Relief.jpg

- The core in our FMIC Kit is 3 inches thick ensuring the best cooling performance possible.

- Our kit also includes a replacement solution for your factory power steering cooler. Simply disconnect the OEM, clothes-hanger style line, install our high-quality hosing and mount our cooler above our FMIC core.

- Finally, we also provide a complete hardware kit including everything you'll need for installation of the kit, including a large mounting bracket for properly supporting the large core.

Can you post some internal photos of the fin density ? I can't find a single one online, its the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger. Would like to see if its offset or not.

i'll see if I can get one hosted. I know a customer posted one a while back on here.

We have used the small and large core intercoolers to run 12s in the 1/4 mile so they are definitely working [up]

It's been mentioned that your intercoolers are the exact same ones as the cxracing ones on ebay ? After a bit of searching they do look exactly alike.
