Hey guys,
Long story short I have two A6s both with the 4.2l wrecked 2003 and a running 2001. I may be looking into doing a 6 speed swap if I can get my hands on the parts. Before I go thru the trouble I wanted to ask if any of you have seen anything about swapping the ecu and harnesses from one of the newer c5s into the older ones? I know ecu programing is only available from the 2002s and newer and i was curious if this is an option. I would do it prior to any transmission swap but am unsure if its possible if the new ecu could communicate with the tcm. I look forward to any advice and/or useful criticism. I have also been considered trading the car in on an s4 next year.

2001-2004 ecu's are compatible. The 01's can be tuned just the same as the 02-04 models.

You need his 2001 ecu. The 2003 has differences in the way it receives a VSS. For retrofitting into an 00, the 01 is the best option.
