So its been a while since I have been on AZ and even longer since I have posted, but of course, what good would things be if we didnt have problems with our cars? So, with that being said, thanks in advance to anyone who can help, or anyone who took the time to read this, and i hope this can somehow help someone else out.
Here are details on my car, problems and questions:
i have a 2006 A4, 2.0T. My transmission is a 7 speed FWD CVT. <- this should be a clue there is a problem [=(] My shift indicator is now flashing on almost every start up, so generally speaking, it should be the TCM... but for the $1900 audi wants to charge me, I really hope it isnt. But here lies within the problem, this has been on for over a year (I know... BAD DRIVER! lol) but it doesnt really affect the driving or performance of the car because the built in limp mode and other parameters in place. Occasionally the car wont back up, and its a matter of putting it in park, then back in reverse and it will move. In drive it doesnt seem to have any problem, UNLESS I am on a hard acceleration and i hit a bump or something hard enough to jerk the car, then its almost like the transmission gets knocked out of gear, RPM's rise with no acceleration. I have to stop, put it in park, shut the car off, start it and away i go. This doesnt entirely make me think the TCM is bad per say but could be something electrical, possibly internally within the TCM or wiring. Now, there is a oil leak on the car somewhere and i have not identified the source, but the plug on the rear of the trans is wet, at least it was last time i was underneath the car. I have heard that Audi transmissions have a problem sealing around the TCM in these models and that this could be the source of the leak. To my knowledge, the transmission has never been serviced before i got it since i only have the oil records from the previous owner. So, for all you audi/vw enthusiasts/ mechanics, do you know the transmission code for this so i can try to find write ups and source the parts? Audi gave me the code a long time ago when i first had the problem but wont release the information to me now (not sure why) and i cant find a write up on the different transmissions. From my understanding on the B7's, there was the 6spd manual for FWD/AWD and 6spd tiptronic auto for both FWD/AWD and the 7spd CVT multitronic for the FWD cars. please correct me if i am wrong in any way, i would like to know facts instead of going off what people said that may not be true. I cannot find this transmission anywhere online, even out of wrecked A4's... do i have something that was created by the government and kept top secret only to give me a headache or can someone shed some light on this transmission problem and decoding? Another possibility (and i wouldnt mind doing this either) would be to swap it out with a manual transmission. I have seen a write up/diy for the b6's but because the different locations of the parts/wiring harness etc between the 2 platforms, can this be done on my car? I was even considering venturing into buying a 2.7 bi turbo A6 quattro and swapping everything over to make it work and part out the A6 and sell off my 2.0t and transmission. The car now has almost 130,000 miles on it, and i still owe too much to just trade it in. I absolutely love the car and i dont want to get rid of it, but i need to address the problems before any more damage is done. Unfortunately i dont make as much as i used to so servicing the car is a timely process since the price of the parts. I know i have to service the cooling system and change out the cam follower, but i would like to get this problem taken care of shortly after so it can be worry free again. Most of its current servicing I do myself since it isnt in warranty, I'm comfortable splitting the transmission and engine if i need to, but i would like a little heads up on what i am getting into before i do it because of how costly everything is and i would really rather not waste time if i cant identify the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jake
