TPMS: Disable error messages and warning lights in Instrument Cluster

I searched many forums for this and never came up with a conclusive method on how to disable the TPMS warnings on B8 A4s, or any recent Audi model that uses TPMS sensors in each wheel. Therefore, after reading about a few methods that worked on older A6s and A8s, and came up with a method to do it on the 2009 and newer Audi A4/S4.

In the luggage compartment (trunk) fuse panel, find fuse #1 in the black fuse holder. The black fuse holder is closest to the front, and fuse #1 is the closest to the center of the vehicle.
Remove the 5 AMP fuse.

Next, using a VCDS cable, connect to control module 19 - CAN Gateway

Once connected to 19 - CAN Gateway, choose Installation List

In the Installation List window, find and remove the check mark beside 65 - Tire Pressure. Click Save Coding.

Close the Installation List window, and close the 19 - CAN Gateway control module.

Next, open 17 - Instruments control module and choose Coding - 07:

In the Recode Module window, choose Long Coding Helper:

In the Coding helper window, select Byte 4 and remove the check mark (check marks not shown in image below) beside Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPMS) Installed:

Exit the Coding Helper.
Back in the Recode Module window, click Do It! to save the configuration.

If coding is accepted, a confirmation dialog box will be shown. Click OK, and close the 17 - Instruments control module.

Most Audis use an indirect TPMS system based on the ABS system, as opposed to requiring sensors on each wheel. So if you are getting warnings with different tires you just go into the menus and tell it to store the new pressure reading.
I think as of 2010 model year all models are using this system.

Indeed, most newer (mid year 2010+) Audis are no longer using TPMS sensors in each wheel, but for those that have them, it's always been a bit of a PITA to get rid of those annoying messages in the cluster.

Also in my experience i've had a couple times where this doesn't work if there is a fault code already stored. However when i swapped the stock tires back on, cleared codes stored values (basically reset everything to factory settings and start over) and then went through these steps it has worked perfectly every time. (only on the 2009's)

That's the TPMS Module fuse.

I get that value of this because when it's below freezing mine always seem to go off if I'm on parked in the garage. But I do want to nl know if my tyres are low and if they are too low it will constantly tell you. Otherwise it's always nice to have an additional VCDS info.

Okay so this didn't work for me I think its because I got a shop to try and disable it for me but they failed. So when I went into 19-can gateway 65 was already unchecked and in 17 - instruments I couldnt find tpms. So is there a way to reset everything back to normal so i can start fresh? They didn't pull the fuse though so I'm going for a drive to see if it turns off after 15 miles or whatever it is

Yo Kyle, it didn't work for my '09 A4 either, but I continued messing with it and finally figured out how to get it to work. What I did was pull the fuse AFTER I disabled the TPMS and cleared the codes. So drive around until the TPMS warning goes away, then immediately make all the settings in VCDS, then finally go back there and pull the fuse.

BTW, typically people that work in shops are complete retards when it comes to this stuff. They never know shit.

Another reason why you shouldn't let any useless twats mess around with your car's electrics... I'm pretty sure you'd have to take it to the dealer in order to reset everything. I remember once I took my car to the dealer for an oil change and they did a software update just after I had cleared the TPMS warning. I had do the process all over again and drive down the highway for about an hour in order for the TPMS light to turn off.

Damn okay I was wanting to go in for an oil consumption test anyways maybe I could get them to reset everything while I'm there. But yeah terrible customer service at that place all they are good for is apr tuning. They order wrong parts fall through on appointments lose things

Damn boss, maybe time to find a new shop! They should be able to do the reset for free, especially if they're doing the consumption test.

My TPMS never goes out. It's constantly flashing due to using winter wheels/tires with no TPMS sensors.

Worked like a charm, thanks Silva! I don't know why others had issues....pull the fuse, disable #65 in 19 and then uncheck bit 4 under the long coding of 17- light went immediately off.

I just replaced all 4 of my TPMS sensors in my summer wheels on Friday with generic 315mhz ones. Did the reset/remember setting in the MMI and the warning went away with 5 minutes of driving.

Most, at least on this thread, want to turn it OFF/DISABLE. (I monitor my own psi regularly). With the firgid temps in NE region of USA, my tire pressure is all over the place. I keep my psi at 36-38 year round, but with single degree temps, it drops so my TPMS is always beeping.

My procedure was connect ODB11: (1) turn on ignation (or start car if you want); (2) Pull TPMS (5A- first fuse in middle block) fuse; (3) Deselect TPMS under module 65. (4)Then under Control units, select 17-INSTRUMENTS-, Long coding, tap over to byte #4 and Deselect TPMS. You MUST press the "check" icon to accept the code. My light went off in 2-3 seconds.

I turned off ignition, then restart car and there was No more TPMS lights/sounds. Mine will stay off until spring/summer--LoL.

In the cold winter temps, tire pressures do drop but it doesn't mean you've lost air out of your tires. Your tire pressure "should" rise once you start driving for a while until the tires get warm enough and the air pressure inside will rise and the warning "should" go away.

I just tried this on my 09 A4 and followed the same procedure without luck. I did experience an error when deselecting 65 and saving coding on the Installation list, but when i returned it was unselected and removed as an installed button. Any thoughts?

Can anyone confirm this method works for the newer cars? Im about to put my winters on and they have no sensors. My summer setup definitely has TPMS sensors so Im not so sure the newer cars use the ABS sensors. Im specifically talking about a 2013 B8.5 allroad.

2009 was the only B8 A4 MY in the US to have direct TPMS. So you have no wheel sensors nor any J502 TPMS control module in your 2013.

Anything that requires long coding. When I click "Do it!" on any screen I get the security clearance popup. I'm guessing they want me to pay for ross-tech? I use the free version with their cable.

No, it's a legitimate ross tech cable that is tied to my VIN. I will get a snap shot of the error later.

I'm trying to disable TPMS as well because my MMI isn't working anymore.

I removed the fuse and tried to disable TPMS but also got a security message.
Hope someone can provide some guidance.

Not trying to be an asshole, but are you aware that if you hit Security Access - 16 and put your cursor over the box, VCDS will often give you the code in a pop-up? Not sure it works on every year/module, but it works often enough that I've never wondered how to get past that screen on my last 4 Audis.
