Hey!
Have posted some pics of my A4 and my retrofit of the Auto trunk lid opening function. And the PM´s just came like a parade (Or something else with lots of questions [:p])
so i tought i would help you other retrofitters to get it right [;)]
i have read online that some people have had this done and some of them have never got it to work, but i have and i think i know what part that can be the bastard in the malfunction [:)]
Here is a pic of how the hinges should look like.

Can you explain the purpose of this mod? I had never heard of it before today and am just wondering what the purpose is, thanks.

I want to do this retrofit since having a stoller in one hand a bay seat filled with a mini me in the other can be tricky.

Needs moar avant!
But can this be done to an avant? I would think not since the hinge mechanism is much different...

i believe that, for an avant, all you would need is a more powerful strut,
It would be harder to close but when you pop the trunk it would have enough power to open it automatically.

Theres no way you could get a strong enough strut on there to lift it up from the bottom. It has almost no leverage when its retracted, hence why it stays down and will close by gravity even when its opened 30* or so. I think a motorized hinge would be necessary. The sedan trunk hinge is a compound design (cantilever??) and therefore the spring has enough leverage to open it.
I wish it were that easy...

Don't forget to throw some neon lights in the trunk that read "THROWED". That way you can pop trunk with the finest down at the Austin Texas Relays. Pop, trunk, waaaaave...

I should inspect my brothers Q7 - it has an auto-open hatch.

Relay's weekend is always crazy and mostly annoying...
OP roughly how much did you spend to do this and how long did it take you?

Would be nice if we could use a kit similar to this http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2083320/

opening a B8 trunk is fine... it's closing it that is just awkward to me.

Well, damn I stand corrected. Looking at the geometry, I thing I was wrong about the struts. Of course it could still be some sort of spring in the hinge. Cool stuff!
Hmm:

Honestly this looks like a super easy mod! And for the record, the Seat Exeo is a European B7 clone.

Any idea where I can possibly get the hinges to buy? I have everything else in my possessision. (struts, springs, buffers) cant seem to locate any hinges tho.

Since the OP is from Sweeden, the "D" part is probably European - I get Google hits for EU countries when I search for 8E5827302D. If you search for just 8E5827302, you'll get hits on jimellisaudiparts.com. I imagine they are interchangeable, and that the important pop-up bits are the springs and struts.
