so at around 89k my third gear began grinding whenver downshifting or upshifting past 3k this was in september.
as the weather got colder the third gear grind is completely gone third goes in smooth almost all the time.
now im at 92k and have about 2500 miles on the stock clutch since going big turbo. i get the occasional slip but its held up really well so far but then again i haven't launched it and maybe go WOT 3-5 times a day
i have been putting off installing my drakes stage v clutch for this reason
now i have a feeling my 3rd gear grind is going to come back come spring time so that leaves me with a couple options
1. fill with syncro mesh and hope it doesn't grind
2. buy jhm rebuild kit and pay a arm and a leg to get it installed
3. buy used transmission ( found some near me for around 1500 with only 20-30k on them)
im leaning towards option 3 but would like to get the opinion of you guys first [az]

"Selling an 01E transmission, I just picked it up a week ago from Michael Anthony on here. "80k shifts through all the gears", seller said it was flawless and he wanted to go built transmission for his K24 build while it was apart. I'm selling because I've decided to go built transmission too. Located on Long Island, NY. Taking offers on it!"
A friend of mine is selling this. PM me if you want his number/FB

thanks for the quotes but are these for a quattro manual car or a automatic because those prices are really cheap?

ill keep him in mind but if i bought a used transmission i would likely buy one with lower miles to limit the wear and tear it already has on it.

There was someone in the classifieds a while back selling a brand new in crate tranny. He was asking for offers. I'll see if I can find him.
Edit: username was B5-S4 Bi Turbo. PM him, maybe he still has it?

I've got a bad first gear on mine.
I like the peace of mind of a rebuilt unit. I'm doing the work but if you can't go used.

I don't have the tools or skills to do it myself so I will likely go with used with decent miles

Hey Guys
In your experience, if i am having difficulty going into 1st and 2nd gear about 95% of the time, but every other gear is butter smooth....that is more than likely my synchros going ?
6 speed manual with only 84km on it.
I havent driven the car hard, and i have had it since 35k and it was women driven before.
Any input is appreciated. thanks guys.

There's your problem! Lol, j/k. It's possible your shifter needs adjustment. Also, changing the fluid usually helps if you haven't done it in a while.

Has anyone ever done a tiptronic to manual 6spd swap? I've thought about this for the future when my car is paid off and I start to do things to keep my interests

Yes. There is a DIY in the b6 tech forum. Its the exact same process on the b7 as they share chassis.
