hey a,, just recent got this 97 a6. had all the fluids flushed. anyway, the dash says the oil pressure is at 0, but i fill this is more likley a gauge issue as the temp sensor also seems gunny-bags. Anyhow, when I get home after a 30min drive or so, the car stinks, i mean, it smells pretty strongly like something is burning up. The car has had some trouble going into first gear (auto trans) but I feel like this may be because the cv axel is pretty shot. anyhow, any ideas or suggestions? can an oil pump go out and stop moving the oil through the engine?

We being trolled?

As for ideas - if you drove it for any period of time with the oil pressure at zero I'd suggest you start saving for a new engine.

actually, i lied, the dash has no oil pressure gague, its an oil pressure temp gague, sooo, its not reading anything. How would I be able to tell if my car was overheaing provided the engine temp, and oil temp gauges are nto working? does the a6 have any kind of fail safe or warning indicator?

There is an oil pressure sensor built into the oil temp sensor. It will light up the central display with a warning if it doesn't detect any. Does your central display work?

The water temp sensor being bad will cause a check engine light. I suspect the oil temp / pressure sensor will do the same but don't have experience of it.

Do your fans come on?

fans do not come on when the car first starts, and no, the central display does not illuminate. should the fan come on right away?

Put your AC on. Tell me if the electric fan(s)? Come on. They should come on and go to full speed.
