I was floored when I saw this picture from a local performance shop. Look at all the bends and those monster cats in the OEM design......can we say major opportunity [:)][:D][race]
I assume they are the same for the RS7 also.
Happy Thanksgiving to All!
Cheers

So are those pre-cats or the main cats? Sure, there's room for improvement, but that's not the worst downpipe design I've seen.

Those are the only cats. Big cats can pass more air than a smaller cat with the same cell density, which makes them *less* restrictive. They don't look that bad to me, but I'm sure there's some power to be made.

Is anyone working on these downpipes ? I have heard millions times that ppl are working on it.. but nothing actually out yet.

lets say I deleted them, custom made a direct downpipe with the 02 sensors still attached on them, will I get the check engine light on ?
Thanks.

Yes you would get a CEL if you did that - in the past this is addressed as companies would come out with a software update to brake advantage of the additional horsepower available by a high flow / race cat set up. In the development and coding of this tune, they would bypass or go around the censor that would normally throw the code so you wouldn't see it.
As far as companies making downpipes- yes, I am sure there is - but no one will talk about it until they are out and available and dyno proven. Look at my build thread- I am showing every step and everything that has gone into the brink system, right? (And we are still tweaking, and I need to do dyno work etc) it brakes time, but I think as a change - people would like to see what goes into bringing a system to market. The downside is, we are goingon 3 months and it takes a while. People get frustrated and impatient. Because if that- most companies say nothing til it's done and then SUPRISE. The upside being, it's done and ready and proven right then. The downside being what you are experiencing now - "who is making something" with no answers. Catch 22.
Till then, ask all C63 owners if they are stock first ;)

...and to the original post, yes the OE exhaust and downpipes both have BIG restrictions in design for clearance purposes and power reservation.

Tuners can code out the CEL for stage 2 cars.
I've tried spacers and other types of masking devices, don't work as well as fooling the ECU. You will not pass emissions (readiness) with a stage 2 file, but that doesn't matter to me in WA (new cars don't have to be tested from now on).
I wonder if the RS7 has different downpipes.

you get a cel for the cat, and two soft codes for not having the electronic actuators plugged in.....

+1,
