Trunk hatch missing something, need identification

So I've had this car for a little over 2 months, and I am just finally getting around to asking this. What is supposed to go on the trunk hatch that my pic shows is covered with black tape? I'm assuming it's trim (I have wood trim) but a pic of someone's trunk intact would be greatly appreciated. I couldn't find a pic of it online anywhere.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

It's prolly where the rear sunshade base mounts (at least that is what is there on mine).
Do you have to round holes on the upper portion of the rear lift gate where the sunshade would clip into?

Thank you both! That would make perfect sense as to what was missing. Now I just need to search for a replacement of it.
