Last night cruising down the highway a comfortable 70mph, a modded CTS-V decided to get incredibly obnoxious. I don't know what mods he had exactly, as I know those things can get really nasty if the owner gets serious. I could hear what I thought were headers/exhaust and the SC whine was at a very high volume.. so my guess is headers/exhaust/pulley/tune. He revved and lurched forward next to me literally 8 or 9 times before I finally gave in. We were only going about 60 at that point, so I figured we had some space to play with. Threw it in S and floored it. I heard his car light up with sounds, and then I was kind of overcome and lost in my own acceleration. I had never really done a proper highway pull after the APR Tune.
I have no data to report on the end result (how many car lengths, etc). All I know is he was so far in my rear view by the time I hit about 110 that I chuckled to myself and then pulled the most disrespectful move I could think of.. and changed over into his lane. I didn't think I had anything to prove to this individual, but for my own sake to position the tuned S8 against what I thought might be a good measuring stick. Next time I do anything will probably be at the 1/4 mile track to get some time slips.

I doubt the CTS-V had all the mods you speculated about. I had an '09 CTS-V with intake, headers, pulley and tune. It did 60-130mph in 7.71s. For comparison sake, APR tested their S8 with 100 octane tune did 8.7s 60-130mph. It might have had just an intake and mufflers and possibly a tune.

Still a great story, I wish the D3 s8 had a few options to increase its HP, would be nice to have the additional hp when needed and less embarrassing when I know I cannot beat a stock STI off the line.....

You should have Geeves drive you around in your S8 lol..... those barges are certainly power houses, but certainly not meant for drag racing LOL

This car is built for tracks 100-140. I however don't have any around here and the roads are horrible.

I know he had a B8 S4, then the dipyourcar blew up and I saw his videos he had a R8 and S6. Damn the S8 is huge though, wonder why he didn't go RS7.

Good question, unless he had enough power with the R8 and wanted the best of both worlds.

I spent an hour in the RS7 before picking up the S8. The RS7 wasn't the night and day difference in handling that I expected between the two. I knew I was going to tune either one, so I would never be hurting for power regardless of my choice. The interior/gadgets of the S8, along with the fact that I'm one of the few that never fell in love with the A7/S7 body style made me very comfortable and happy to go with the S8.

I'm with you on that, I never was too fond of the A7 styling. Can't go wrong with a S8, glad to see you are blowing Cts-vs out of the water without much effort too lol

Good to hear, thanks for the info. I will be transitioning to an RS7 and prior to doing so I will see if I can take a closer look at the new S8.
What do you believe will happen tuning wise for the new TDI A8L? These diesels arrive at nearly half capacity choked down for our air quality standards. Would be interested to see what a newer TDI can do performance wise.

I freaking love TDI's. Torque for days.. I'm excited to see what APR does with that motor.
Getting custom exhaust on the S8 done today, should have the car back tomorrow. I'll post a vid when it's done

Agree with you here, I never liked the A7/S7 myself.
