Anyone know if I could use one of the temp '-' or '+' buttons in the place of the fan '-' or '+' buttons? The only messed up button on my climate control is the fan '-' button and I'm wanting to buy a used unit to swap that button in. It's much more common to find the temp buttons not beat to hell.

Just get a cheap pre facelift one and swap all the buttons. No more soft touch problems with the climate control.

I think you could, but the slight color difference is hardly noticeable between the early and facelift models

Dre, I saw your write-up a while ago on that and that's what inspired me. I just couldn't stand a color mismatch- too anal.

Is this the label being prematurely worn or is this when you want to adjust the temp by one degree and the button gets stuck and just keeps notching it up or down while you erratically poke at it as you're trying to watch the road?

If so, what am I looking for? I have a 2003 S6 and along with the squealing fan motor, that issue drives me crazy.

Its worn button labels. And fixing the queak is as easy as getting behind the glove box, pulling the fan with motor, detatching the fan and greasing it up. There's a write-up for it around here somewhere. Takes less that 30 mins start to finish. Actually I remember there being a youtube video too.

Never even heard of that one, sorry :( maybe they're grimy? I'd suggest taking it apart and giving a little clean and see if that solves your problem. Since it's getting colder it would be a nice indoor project.

Why don't you get a set of these stickers? I'm sure there's some C5 ones out there. They probably hold up better than the stupid soft touch stuff.

Saw them but I'm honestly only interested in totally OEM look. If I can't find a unit with undamaged buttons then I'll probably swap the single button out with a pre-facelift button. The stickers are a solid idea though.

Well, that's better than having that shitty soft touch pealing off all over the place. I suppose you could go make negative images of the for each button and plasti dip each one individually. Then peal off the stickers and you have nearly new buttons.

I personally will go with the much better wearing 2001 HVAC buttons.
