This is on my S6, winter fitment. I had 225/55 17s on OEM Allroad wheels (17x7.5 et25) a couple winters ago and got a little rubbing on the inner fender walls at full lock, how much more is the extra width and offset difference likely to cause?

Inside of the tire will sit roughly 15mm further in, 10mm from offset and 5mm from the increased tire width.

That's 2" over stock size. I mounted some that size and they were less than an inch from the front and rear walls of the wheel arch at ride height with wheels straight. What are you after with this?

Presumably the extra inch of ground clearance and lower effective gear ratio for winter conditions in Canada. Going to taller tires for winter is pretty common, especially on a car that is low in the first place like an S6.

This. Tall and narrow is much much better for cutting through snow and getting traction on ice as it focuses the vehicle weight into a smaller contact patch increasing the effective pressure. Going slightly oversize also helps by increasing ground clearance and reducing the amount of snow you have to plow through. That said, Vancouver gets the same winters as Seattle (I'm sure you all remember The Colbert Report from the 2010 Winter Olympics [:p]) so it's not as important here as it is pretty much anywhere else in Canada. I run winters mostly because our temps are generally below the 7C threshold where all-seasons loose their elasticity and I do head into the mountains for skiing and family visits pretty frequently.

Mainly I've found a really good deal on a set of Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D's in that size. 235/55-17 is only 1.2% larger than the stock AllRoad size of 225/55-17. That's the same size increase from 4.2/S6 stock size of 255/40-17 to the winter fitment of 235/45-17 and I can easily adjust the speedo/odo difference by recoding the cluster for the Allroad wheel fitment. It's either that or I'll just by the Nokian WRG2 in 235/45-17 as that tire is better than pretty much any winter tire I've every driven and it's 420AA rating means I should get about 4 winters (beginning of Oct to mid-Mar) before they run out of winter-effective tread.
