I wasn't too keen on the "short ram" air intake on my car when I bought it. However, I cannot for the life of me get the oem airbox to fit back in the car, seems it hits the back of the headlight so I've left it with the hot-ram-air for now. However, I met a female today who decided to modify the air intake opening size......

Literally exploded DEPO headlight:

Interestingly enough the modification worked. At 60mph my IAT is usually 20* F above ambient. With this modification, at 60 mph IAT is 10-12* above ambient!

Damaged: Bumper, fender, hood, grill, lower headlight support (fiberglass), headlight, headlight washer, fender liner, fender braces, A/C condenser, front mounted fan.

Thankfully no fluid leaks and the intercooler looks to be completely untouched (BARELY). A larger intercooler such as AWE would have been destroyed.

Yeah it sucks! But gotta stay positive. The good thing is I DOUBT this will total the car, my comprehensive deductible is $250, and there's a 8" long DEEP gash in the hood paint from the previous owner.....new hood=gash gone!

Damn..

At least you seem to be alright man, panels can be replaced.. and it doesn't look too bad.

Did the impact pop the grill out? [confused]

Appreciate it.

I found the chrome trim from the grill, the rest of the grill disintegrated, there were tons of tiny black plastic pieces in the road I had to clean up to keep others from cutting their tires. Dead center of the grill is where the condenser was punctured.

So after driving for a week after hitting the deer....still waiting on insurance to get back to me....I noticed my car isn't quite as quick. Started watching my boost gauge and I'm down 3-4psi. I usually can hold 14-16 and spike to 18-20. Right now I'm holding 11-13 and spiking no higher than 17. I'm thinking that intercooler took a hit after all. I'm now worried they're going to total this car......I will buy it back and fix it with the payoff but still will suck having a salvaged title.

Any update? Curious about what your insurance has to say.

Yeah, 3800 repair estimate totals it. I'm going to take the settlement and fix it myself then get a restored title.

3800? They'd better pay you a hell of a lot more than that!

3800 is real low for that damage

Yeah, they're paying $4800. $6100 minus salvage value of $1300. I should be able to get all the parts needed for 1600. Gotta possibly pay a shop to fix the metal frame under the fender that the rad support bolts to up top, it's slightly bent/twisted. I'll try moving it myself but if I can't locate it to my liking I'll pay them to setup the lasers on it. Other than that everything is just bolt back together pretty much. I might have the replacement fender and hood painted before I even install them, just seems like the best route. I'll probably paint my bumper and all trim with SEM bumper paint while everything's apart.

I just picked up a oem, never repainted hood & grill in excellent condition for $265 shipped greyhound!! Sadly it's the wrong color but w/e.

My 2 biggest concerns:

1. Do I use the extra money to upgrade to AWE intercoolers (gotta replace one intercooler & duct anyway (~$100))
2. Do I grab an rs6 grill for $300 and make the front end look awesome? (Not clicking with the conversion mod)

make sure there is no frame damage first. then see if it worths for repair.

Appreciate the advice, 99.873% sure there's definitely no significant frame damage. Wasn't a hard hit and the headlight and fender took the brunt of it. Like I said, the only part of the frame that might need pulling is the part that the top of the fender bolts to. I'll be doing some diagonal and parallel and angle-to-horizontal measuring between the 2 sides tomorrow and determine for sure if and how much it's bent.

Maybe one of you guys can help me: When installing the headlight you have to fit the inside end of the light onto a short arm that rotates and sorta locks the headlight in place on the inside end.......that arm is destroyed, what the heck is it called?

if you are talking about the white plastic it's called "Headlamp assy bracket"

8L0941454 Left

8L0941453 Right

it's $16.74 per piece on GAP, not cheap for that small piece of plastic! and it doesn't come with new headlight assembly!(yeah I bought two new headlight it doesn't come with it)

so if you want to replace them you have to buy at dealer seperately..

when I upgrade my headlight to xenon I found it's PITA when reinstall the head light back to body so I didn't use it AT all.

so far so good, the top two bolts and lower bolt seem hold headlight well.
