Hey Socal Audi friends-

I am hoping someone here might have the same set up as I do and can share there smog passing experience. I have the AWE Kit with GIAC software, AWE FMIC, AWE Turbo-back exhaust with 200 cell HFC (came with the kit), and APR HPFP. I just failed the sniffer at idle for the HC portion. I passed at 2500 RPM for everything else and only missed the HC max at idle by 2 points (Max was 100, my reading was 102).

Anyone with Stage 3 that was able to legitimately pass Smog? I am wondering if I put new plugs, new O2 sensors, and a clean air filter in I would be able to squeak by? I naturally have no CEL with the HFC I have. I didn't have to install a spacer or code around it, I just never got one. 2 yrs ago I was able to pass at stage 2 plus with stock cat no worries. My question for stage 3 guys, if my only option is to put the stock cat back in and tune down to stock, would that be damaging to the G28R turbo?

I thought that this kit was going to pass no worries, guess I was wrong.

Thanks for any advice you guys might have.

Just pay someone to pass you [;)]

I've heard that if you drive on the highway before and get the cat really hot it will read better. You could also try a bottle of Guaranteed to Pass. You're so close to passing that I feel it isn't worth putting stock cats back in... New plugs can't hurt, however I doubt new 02s would do anything.

Yeah you can just pay, but you aren't far off, maybe do what Lindw4ll said and drive it on the highway to warm up the cat. I can ask my smog buddy and get back to you if you want. Just PM me :)

Put a gallon of E85 in it and run the PISS out of the car before taking it in. It'll pass.

My buddy mentioned dumping ethanol in there and then running it hard before the test. How much? Like a gallon on a 1/2 tank of fuel? Will it be bad for the Cat, Injectors, or Turbo?

I'd rather pay someone to make it happen, but don't have a San Diego contact yet.

It won't harm it. Just put a gallon in, beat on the car for a while on the highway and you'll be golden.

Try adding 1 gallon of E85 to your tank. ...That'll help clean up the emissions....

Thanks for the good advice on the E85 everyone. Pulled off a pass today. Mixed 1.25 gallon of E85 with about 13 gallons of 91.

Blew a 68 ppm at idle on the Hydrocarbon down from 102 last weekend on just 91. Anyone running stage 3 with a highflow cat, give this a shot to pass smog.
