So just picked up my gf aunts 99 Quattro. Has 187k miles on it runs drives great. Plans are to of course make it fun to drive eventually maybe just go all out and road race auto cross it. I have a lifted and modded discovery and a crammed modded ws6 trans am. I will throw money at the audi when I want. Looking for a starting point. Point me in right direction. Things I know I need to do already are clutch and timing belt ( been replaced once). Guy on here in classifieds has flashed ecu 16 psi tune I was already thinking bout and I would do the diverter valve and test pipe to rid the cat. Prob do something with the rest of exhaust as well. Also it needs brakes not sure what direction to go there and the suspension. Obviously lower it and get some wheels and tires not sure what size don't want skinny low pro tires on it. Want the best set up for performance. Not too crazy worried bout styling. Going all for performance here. Thanks in advance for your suggestions! Tons of good stuff on this site I have been reading nonstop for days.

I decided to turn this thread into a update thread of all the work I will perform on this audi.

First off, welcome to the 'zine! Please search around as there are a ton of threads like this out there already. My suggestion would be to start with maintenance. Get it running correctly, make sure nothing is leaking or worn out, and once you feel that she's reliable enough, start modding.

If you plan to autocross, I would definately suggest starting with a good set of coilovers (nothing cheap, you get what you pay for!) and a thick rear sway bar to improve handling and turn-in response. If your control arms are worn and the steering feels sloppy, especially over bumps, you can pick up a complete control arm replacement kit from FCP Groton for a pretty good price. This will certainly change the way the car feels and you will notice a massive improvement overall. Remember that in Autocross, you gain the most time from cornering, not from horsepower, so focus on this first.

Next up, get yourself a boost gauge, then look into a Stage 1 tune such as GIAC to raise your boost levels and get a bit more power out of the car. You can pair this up with a test pipe for a quicker spool, but this might bump you up to a different class, so make sure you read through the regulations for whatever series you plan to race in.

Good luck!

Sweet, remembered I pulled a boost gauge off of my co-workers daughters car that her boyfriend put on. I took it off for him a year ago and gave it back. Asked him yesterday if he still had and and today he gave it to me. SCORE!

Can't beat free. Congrats on the score [up]. Hook it up and check what your boost and vacuum readings are. Great way to tell how healthy your motor is.

So installing boost gauge. Can't get vent out of housing I pulled housing no prob. Tried pulling prying with a lot of force and deciding to stop before I break it. Anyhow I did a lot of inspecting today. Looks like I have some leaks is wet oil all dripping from front bottom. Also got accumulation around injectors. Cam cover leaking for sure could the injectors be leaking at o rings? I'll post back with updates including boost numbers.

Finished boost gauge install. Boost never passed 6 psi. I guess turbo is a little worn 187k miles.
