Sorry if this is a repost, but a couple weeks ago i participated in one of those super secret car studies, and behold..... they had an A4 two door, hard top, non-convertable coupe on display.

I can't tell you much more about it since it wasn't told to any of us.... but i found it quite interesting.

You sure that wasn't the Volkswagen A5 platform based car?

It was an Audi A4 2.0T. The engine specs were more than the 200hp that the current car has. I forget how much, i think it was around 220hp stock.

I'm positive it was an Audi. 100%

Looked a lot like the B7 but way sportier and with 2 doors. I wish i could have snuck my camera phone in but they had the big thug security guard with the metal detector wand who even made me hand over my keys (my suspicious audi switchblade key) when entering the area where the cars were.

Edit: This was the same type of car study I did two years ago where i saw the new BMW 3 Series long before any spy shots were even taken.

Two things.

1. Ever since i bought my car, somehow they gave my info to one company who every so often calls me up for these studies. They pay very well too. Like $75/hour.

2. I had a hookup for some other types of studies via a friend who used to be an advertising salesman for the company who publishes import racer, street trucks, euro tuner, and many other automotive magazines.

Oh... and you guys will love the new TT if they keep the current prototypes as they currently are. [tt]

Its much more Porsche'ish than VW Beetle'ish. That vehicle i've only seen conceptual drawings of.

man.. I'm excited. I've wondered for the longest time if they were going to make a hard top coupe. what you need to do now - is get a pencil and paper.. and draw it for us.

So it was actually badged "A4"? You sure it wasn't an A6 sized coupe? A coupe based on the A6 platform is supposedly in the works, but this would be the first news I've heard about an A4 coupe. Sorry, I'm just skeptical because I've been waiting for this car to be built for so long. There has been rumor after rumor with no reality. If they are finally building it I'm stoked! I'd be down to put my name on the waiting list ASAP!

EDIT: I just found this... LINK (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Articles/articleId=105661#)

Did it look a lot like the Nuvolari show car?

That article seems to say it won't be a B7 but based on the next gen. A4.

Nope. It looked very similar to the current two door convertable A4 but with a hard top. I think Foo participated in a study where we saw it on the drawing boards prior to this study.

Wow, that's pretty cool. Wish I could find something like that around here.

So I'm assuming they let you drive some sort of "concept car" that's almost at the "ready for production" stage and then they do the final tweaking based on your feedback? Or was this supposed to be a "B8?" Curious to find out what's going on.

BTW, how was the understeer and the torque in the higher RPM's?

Nothing in the studies i've done was driven. Many of the vehicles were only full sized models, especially when i was in the study with the new 3 series. Nothing on the dash was real, just fake gauges, stereo controls, etc.

it sounds pretty interesting... I wonder what platform it'll be made on for the showroom.
