The APR fall sale is on, which HPFPs going for around 10% off. I figure if I pick up a rev H HPFP from Europaparts, I could essentially get a brand new APR HPFP for around $780 -- not bad, very tempting. That's about on par with a new pump from hpfpupgrade.com.
Question: What is the consensus regarding replacement of the low pressure fuel pump before adding an HPFP?
My car is around 40k. In other threads, some have had problems with adding an HPFP only to find that their lpfp was the culprit. I'd like to avoid inevitable problems by adding power too soon. Example: two years ago, while tracking, the car popped a lpfp trouble code and I had an on-track fuel cut resulting in limp mode. No repairs done, code was erased. Since then, no big problems that I am aware of.
Is there a rule of thumb when the lpfp tends to break down and should be replaced as a precaution?
