As many of us know the piano black trim is a love/hate battle. It looks great at night but as soon as the sun hits it all of the swirls/scratches/fingerprints/dust are revealed. I have debated purchasing a new piano black set or the brushed aluminum trim from Audi. We are all aware that is a ridiculously expensive option.
I have finally decided that I'm going to have my trim wrapped in 3m 1080 brushed black. This 3m 1080 is the newer version of the 3m Di-Noc that everyone is raving about. With my all black interior (titanium package), the brushed black will still maintain that stock character of the car.
Stay tuned for the finished product........In the meantime here are samples.
UPDATE: Door Trim/Shifter/Ash Tray Wrapped. Dash trim will be done soon. Stay tuned.

I believe someone here beat you to it. He posted a thread about two weeks ago in regards to his head unit install and showed off his trim. I'll look back and see if I can find it

Mine too. I love the look of the brushed metal - this might be a winter project for me.

Sub'd for results. I'm toying with this or the 1080 carbon fiber wrap. Either way, x2 for another winter project.

I rubbed back my fish scale to a brushed finish and sprayed with 2k clear, turned out great.

what tools did you use to remove the trim or is it absolutely necessary to use the trim removal tool kit?

Just an electric mouse(palm) sander to remove the scale then refined with wet and dry paper to "brush" it, dead easy!!

Basic hand tools removes the trim, flat screw driver and 8mm socket/ratchet, there's a great how to on here somewhere.

Sorry mate, done it several times before on old VWs, only really works if your trims aren't too badly damaged, scratches are fine but dents obviously still show. Look forward to seeing your pictures tho, how hard you want the "brush" is a personal thing so be nice to see someone elses.

Thanks! I purchased the vinyl from ebay. Do a search for "3m 1080 brushed black". I purchased 3 sets of the 12"x60". I messed up a few times so it ended up taking me 4 sets. Definitely used a heat gun to apply as well as a squeegee to smooth out. It takes some finessing but over its pretty easy.

Ill definitely be looking into it!
Does anybody know if ill have to sand down my "fish scale" trim to flat before putting it on to get the same look?

You would def need to sand to a flat finish. The 3m 1080 is very thin. The fishscale's texture would show through! Happy sanding :-p

Does anyone have the answer to this? EDIT - found it for the inside http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/499830-B7-Carbon-Fiber-Vinyl-Film-Your-Interior-Trim-(Beltline-Trim)?highlight=vinyl+wrap
I was also wondering about the amount needed from the chrome trim on the outside of the windows.

Order a 3" roll in your preference of gloss or matte from Shadowlinetrim (http://shadowlinetrim.com/). As for the interior, if you have fishscale trim the pattern may/will show through the brushed vinyl so you have to sand it down first. For about $100 you could also diy real carbon fiber trim.
