I have a small oil leak coming from the rear timing cover on the 2.0 motor. I have been searching and have been trying to see if anyone has changed that gasket? Is it a pita or is it pretty straightforward? The gasket itself is pretty cheap, and i am looking at replacing that vacuum pump that sits on it anyways.

Btw its the timing cover on the rear of the motor that has the vacuum pump attached to it, next to the firewall.

Ruh Roh!

OP, I've done it and its a huge pain in the ass to get the cover on and off. If can definitely be done, but you'll need a lot of Bandaids, Beer, and the patience of a saint (or some super low profile T25 torx bits)

Anything in particular I need to know about? Is it just the 10 or so torx and it comes off?

Are those cam followers a common problem? Should I be looking at replacing it?

Cam followers are definitely an issue with this engine. It is highly recommend to check yours periodically, especially if you are tuned. Do a quick search and you'll see the problems it can lead to if it fails

Damn. Mine was VERY close to doing that right after I bought mine too. Got extraordinarily lucky in that the tip of the hpfp only barely got caught in the chain and managed to settle into a recess in he housing and not snap the chain. Same with the flop lower chuck that got lodged in the chain tensioner but managed to do very little damage if any.

More or less it's just that.

You have to remove the vacuum pump ( 3 screws I think), the hpfp (3 bolts), and the n205 solenoid (1 screw). Then you can remove the rest of the screws. Just be careful to only remove the cam cover screws, not the rear coolant flange bolt.

It seems easy enough to check. Thanks I'll look it up to see what I should be looking for.

Thanks! I'll be looking at doing this soon. These oil leaks drive me CRAZY!
