My dad called me tonight on his way home because his car was overheating, I headed over to my parents house to look at it for him after work.

The car doesn't overheat at idle, fan cycles normally, needle right tp the left of middle. Coolant level normal.

Took the car for a spin and the needle didn't move much till I got into the throttle a little bit. The needle moved right up towards red. Pulled over to verify the fans were still running. They where running on high. Turned on the heat and it brought the temp down, drove it home with the needle slightly above normal.

Now my question is I doubt the tstat is faulty, I'm not a 2.0t guy but 90% of tstat issues I've seen are low temp issues that come with a code.

Now the kicker,

My pops had the tbelt service done 7k ago, pulled out the invoice and it clearly states water pump on it.

Ideas?

Is there flow in the coolant when the t stat is open?

Air bubble trapped?

Air bubble trapped?

This was my initial thought. I'd bleed the system again. Is the upper radiator pipe hard once it meets operating temp? If not it could be an issue with the water pump impeller.

The fact that it says cool at idle, yet warms up on acceleration makes me believe its either a trapped bubble or bad thermostat. Had a bubble trapped in another car that shows the same signs. Be careful to not warp the heads!
