I am currently in a 2011 Premium Plus meteorite Gray S4 with 39k on the clock. I only owe 3k on the car so I'm weighing my options. Though I love my car, it was an impulse buy as it was the only manual one in the DFW area. As a result it has no flat bottom, no Nav, alcantera inserts (which I hate), and the color which I like but I would have preferred monsoon My question is as a fellow B8 S4 owner would you trade in and order and New S4 will all of the goodies that you want or would you go out and add the missing items which would be around 6k. In addition the car is on air and is APR stage 2+, and has already be flagged for TD1. I have all of the stock parts so I could put it back to stock pretty quickly. Anyone else made the change from the 8 to the 8.5?

I wouldn't trade my B8 for B8.5, but then again, I have all the options I wanted... except maybe the color. lol It's a tough choice... How about paying it off and saving the rest of the payments until next year when something else might come along. I don't think the 2014's have that many changes to warrant this... as you say, it could end up being an impulse trade for you now. If 2015 brings something better, you'll end up kicking yourself over Nav and a steering wheel.

My idea is simple, I don't trade in for a new car that is almost identical to my current car but it's your choice to do whatever with your own money.

I mean i've considered an SQ5 or A or S6 but I feel like I will really miss manual transmission.

I am probably a bad example to answer this, and I lease my cars, but... I had a 2012 S4, then 7 months later traded it in for a 2013 S4, lost a bit in the trade from the negative equity in my 12 still, but offset a bit of that with the dealership being really aggressive with their numbers and getting me a lower payment (on a more expensive equipped car). Did a bunch of the usual mods to that 13 S4 and then after 14 months, just traded it in for a 14 S5... for that trade I found a dealership that was willing to be even more aggressive and got me out of my lease with no negative equity... but I did have to put everything back to stock and now start again with the new S5...
So my take, if the newer car is gonna get you everything you want, make you happy, and you can make the $$ work for you, then 100% go for it! Oh and get the napa, I had alcantara in the 12 and while I did like it, I really really like the napa.

Trading in your 2011 for an almost identical albeit newer car will not have the same wow factor, not to mention it will cost you a pretty penny. If I were you, I'd wait couple more years for the B9.

Like the others I wouldn't trade a B8 for a B8.5 it's essentially the same car. I need some variety I would never get the same car and essentially the same body style twice. Personally I'd get something else if you're intent on trading now or wait for the B9.

Agreed. As far as I understand it we should have some idea of the B9 by mid next year right?

I traded my lightly loaded leased 2010 S4 in and leased a 2014. BUT, my new car now has Nav , B&O, rear camera, memory seats, compass in the mirror and advanced key. Not to mention a better looking instrument panel, metal pedals and switches, different wheels and new grill plus flat bottom steering wheel with Bluetooth streaming. So to me , It really does seem like a new car. AND it is a manual transmission. Loved the 2010nad love this one even more, Went from brilliant red/black leather to Misano/black leather. The color difference is minimal. Both with CF trim.

This. Also, why would OP trade a car when he only owes $3,000?

Because he wants a new car and he can. Doesn't have to make financial sense.

It seems to me that finances are a part of his dilemma.

I made the switch. Same payment essentially for me. The major change is going from an auto car to a manual car which made a big difference for me... The potential DSG problems freaked me out and I prefer manual. The options I lost when going from the B8 to the b8.5 are the B&O and the 19s. But I got out of a 47k car and got into a 11k car that was CPO

I made the switch, would never look back. The b8.5 is sooooooo much better than the b8. Exterior updates and interior updates are better. Still love the b8, but much happier with the b8.5.

I wouldn't say sooooooo much better. I would much rather have the B8 which doesn't have the steering issues over the B8.5 any day. I do like the look of the new LED headlights.

Really brother? The exterior is subjective, but I'll give you that. But what changed inside other than the MMI system? Steering wheel and pedals are easy additions for someone not interested in restarting a big car loan.

+1. Sat in one at a dealership couple of weeks ago. Very minor cosmetic changes to keep the car relatively fresh and competitive before the major redesign.
