With such a large number of different fixes for different issues and confusion about their effects, I decided to create a survey so we can analyze the outcomes. It should take just a few minutes to complete.
Please read each question carefully before answering.
Survey can be found HERE (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1nkxWalhkxQ0KHNEmTUkqTwsnu18P-blAfjxdo9Nkt10/viewform).
EDIT: Please don't complete the survey more than once. If you want to see the summary or raw data, look at post #14 below.

Nice, this should probably be a sticky for a while just like the water pump issue thread.

Great, we have 12 responses already. Keep 'em coming! I'll wait until we have more data before I aggregate and summarize it. Looking interesting so far. I'm especially interested in what people who first disabled DSR and now had this 48K8 fix applied have to say.

I did the survey as well. In my book notchiness = slip. Similar SW problem. Had it with all 3 racks.

Conversely, if you've had 48K8 (and are pleased with the result), is there an additional benefit to then disabling DSR?

Can you elaborate? For me, notchiness is a very dramatic movement of the steering wheel into distinct "notches" as you rotate it. The slip is the vagueness and inconsistent assist around 12 o'clock. Most people have reported newer racks fixing the notchiness but not the slip.

Just did the survey, and wrote up a review of the 48K8 software in the steering VAG-COM thread for steering issues. Overall I am happy with the 48K8 software, and the steering feel is definitely heavier at most speeds after the update.

There are 29 responses as of right now (great!). I glanced through them and found some interesting information. Both people who had DSR off and later went in for the 48K8 fix reported the fix producing better steering than disabling DSR. One had the old rack and the other had a 2013 build date and the new rack.
Let's see if we can't get some more responses before I make a deeper analysis.

Another hallmark of the slip is a definite notch at 12:00 o' clock. I experienced this intermitently over crowned roads and uneven surfaces in addition to sloppy on center feel. My 2013 already had the new rack from the factory.

True, I have experienced that notch before. In the interest of consistent nomenclature, let's refer to that 12 o'clock notch as part of the "slip" issue. We'll define the "notchiness" issue by the feeling notches in the full range of the steering motion.

Yup, agree. BTW, thanks for taking the time to put the survey together.

Is there a summary of the survey results without going though the survey again to view at the end?

Here's the "summary of responses" link I get as the creator:
Summary graphs (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1nkxWalhkxQ0KHNEmTUkqTwsnu18P-blAfjxdo9Nkt10/viewanalytics)
Here's the link to the raw survey response data:
Raw survey data (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ap2ZRDHZ4yTCdHpnZElLcmJPbWpWY1I0Y2VSb0luV kE&usp=sharing)
Since a lot of the questions are not meant to stand on their own, I'll try to come up with an analysis when I get some free time. It would be more meaningful when we see that x% of people who had DSR disabled and the 48K8 fix applied were happier with 48K8, for example.

Impressed with your survey metrics so far
...and so glad I have a 2012.
