Automatically holds for 2-3 secs and then auto releases. My 2010 had to be manually engaged. Both 6MT

Yup, my 2014 holds automatically as well. Cool feature.

PLUS, the mirror tilts in reverse(Prem+) AND you don't have to have your seat belt on for e brake to release. Should have been that way from 2010 models.

Wish I had the right mirror tilt on reverse, would make tight city parking a little easier

Real men don't need a hill holder [;)]

This can be activated with vag com. I like using the reverse cams parallel parking assist feature the best. Perfect parking every time.

Yes and I did that on my 2010. Now I don't have to. I wonder wheter Audi just actiavted the mirrors on the Prem+ or they actually are using the tilting mirrors from previous years Prestige cars. They are different.

How do you like the hill hold system on the Audi? My '11 STi had hill hold and I disabled it after a few weeks. Almost every time I start on an incline I would "beat" the hill hold and the car would be moving forward dragging against the brakes briefly. It was very annoying and seemed downright dangerous at times. Luckily to disable it you only had to enter use certain controls in sequence to disarm it.

The right side mirror tilts on my 2013 as long as the mirror adjustment knob is set to the right side. Also don't need seat belt on for brake release as long as foot is on brake pedal.

I knew I wasn't crazy when I experienced slight hill hold, great feature.

Mine does it, but you MUST have the right mirror selected on the mirror adjustment knob on the door.

The hill hold on Audis must work differently because I've never felt it drag against the brakes. The brakes release instantly as soon as there is enough power to get you moving forward. Feels very natural and you don't even feel the brakes release.

That was a Prestige only option for 2010-2012. Can't say for 2013 Prem+ but all year Prestige do tilt

I had it on my 07 335i and liked it. I could activate it manually on my 2010, but rarely did. It seems to work seamlessly on the 2014. I was surprised when I was on a hill today and it didn't drift back.

Even in SF, I didn't notice a need for the hill assist in my last AWD vehicle and I can only assume this is the same? The only real trouble should be spinning the tires by accident which isn't an issue in AWD ;)

Maybe. I liken the feeling in the STi to when I do not manually release the parking brake and just clutch in and go. I really don't like the feeling of pulling against the brakes for the fraction of a second before they release. That's how it felt every time in the STi. I would imagine that if hill hold is automatic in the B8.5 then the system would have been made smoother than the parking brake release feels.

My 13' also holds the brakes and doesn't roll as the DSG typically does without hill hold.

Does it only hold on uphill? My friend said his 10 year old Audi has downhill hold as well.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I could not find any definitive answers on this forum nor at the Audi dealer (salesman didn't know shit about the car.)
I'll possibly be in the market for a B8.5 6MT and was wondering which years/trims have the hill hold feature? I test drove a 2013 Prem+ that did not have the hill hold feature and also test drove a 2014 Prestige that did have the hill hold feature. Both were 6MT. My commute has some hills that can get backed up with traffic and this feature would be a real plus.

For the B8.5 is this just on 2014 and newer models? Only on Prestige models?

Thx for any advice

My 2014 Premium Plus has it. I'm pretty sure my friend's 2013 Prestige does not (maybe he'll stop lurking and chime in here!)

The question asked right above yours: It holds downhill too, when in reverse. Pretty slick. [:)]

EDIT: I just noticed you're in Austin! [cool]

2013 does not hold but I have used the electronic park brake on big hills and it lets go as soon as you start to move forward.

Thanks I guess I'll limit my search to 2014+ !
Yup I'm an Austinite - like most people I moved here from a colder climate

Yes, there are a few other perks that came in the '14 as well, such as bluetooth audio streaming. As for you moving here, I won't hold that against you. Even though I'm a native. [:p]
Good luck on your search!

Hey, Brian actually can post here! [:D]

Good to know about the park brake.

I always used the e-brake, when you hit the gas it releases - is this what you guys mean?

No, the 14+ models have an automatic hill hold assist. If you are sitting on a hill in gear with the clutch in and foot on the brake, when you take your foot off the brake it will hold the car for about 1.5 seconds or until you give it gas or let the clutch out then it releases the brake. Pretty slick, and only very rarely do you even feel a jolt as it lets go.

I just hold the brake and accelerate a little bit

It can. I did it on my 2011. But until you do, just manually activate the electronic e brake and it will self release when you move forward. Manually activated hill holder.

Thanks, yes I've done that but since getting my GTI (which has the hill holder), I realize that the takeoff is much smoother than the manually actuated e-brake on the S4.

It doesn't have downhill hold so when I'm trying to parallel park on a steep decline I engage the electronic parking brake and just reverse. Works well.

This. As soon as it could move on its own power it releases the brake.
