View Full Version : Steering won't straighten out after a turn, new CAs, TREs, and alignment

So I just replaced the control arms and tie rod ends in my 99 A4 Quattro and took it to an alignment shop today. They got it aligned and sent me on my way. As I was driving it home I noticed that something about the steering just didn't feel right but I couldn't place it. It felt less responsive or something but there was noticeable play in the steering. Then I realized that it wasn't straightening out after a turn very well. Before all of this I was able to turn a corner and then let the steering wheel do its thing and it would straighten out. Now I have to pull the steering wheel back the other way to get it straight again.

I don't know much about alignments but the report they gave me looks ok i guess. Everything looks like it's in the specified range, except for the caster which I can't find a specified range for but it's close to what it was on a previous alignment report (Right 3.8, Left 3.2).
Here is the alignment report:

Also in the report they have my car listed as standard 1BA, 1BP suspension. I'm pretty sure I have the 1BE sport suspension. Unfortunately the sticker in the spare wheel well is no longer there but my struts are red. Would this cause them to get the alignment specs wrong? Any suggestions?

Maybe I'm not used to the feel of the new front end work I did, although it seems like mine was better at self centering before the front end work and alignment. How well do your cars self center after a turn? Does anyone have a recent alignment report I can look at? I'm trying to figure out what the normal caster range is for the B5. 3.8 seems like it's kind of in the middle of the road as far as caster angles go.
