Thinking I should probably install one of these. I haven't done any car electronics installs in years. Is there a thread here somewhere with a DIY install type write-up? The search function gives me a million results. Just want to make sure I order everything and know how to do a clean install.

i started this thread before my install had a lot of replies and links to other useful info. there isn't a complete DIY write up, but you can get all the info from this and the linked threads:

you have several options but basically it comes down to this:
mount: need to be by rear view camera
wire from camera to power source: tuck it into the headliner. super easy, just use a credit card to push it in. then down the A-pillar, you need to pop out the airbag tab and unscrew the screw that sits behind it. that loosens the a pillar trim piece. you can move it enough without totally removing it to run the cable down the a pillar, just make sure it doesn't interfere with the airbag.
wiring: the blackvue comes with 3 wires- a ground, red for switched power (only powers when the ignitition is on), and a yellow for constant (so you can have park mode). if you don't get a black magic pro or something else to prevent complete battery drainage, i would not wire the yellow wire into anything.
To do the actual wiring into the fuses, use fuse taps. best and cleanest way. don't just wrap the bare wire onto the fuse. if you have a multimeter, you can easily test which fuses get power when car is on/off. Most of us have used the soundaktor fuse for the switched power. For constant, i used i think this one open fuse slot in the right most bay that was open but still live - it was something like for rear regulator for cabrios only.

This was me today:
I swooped on 2 x DR400G Series 2. One in the front, and one in the rear.

The front took me about 20 minutes to hardwire. VERY easy with one of these $7 "Tap a Fuses". Plus its a million times cleaner then the way that guy in the video above did it. I used a multi meter to find the switching 12v power fuse. You pop out whatever fuse you want and insert this.

Then you get one of these and chop off the cable. Then crimp it onto the tap a fuse. Just make sure you get the polarity right. I messed that up originally.

For the back I just plugged in the power adaptor in the power port between the seats in the back. I tucked in behind everything and ran it around to the back window. It took maybe 15 minutes. Overall it was super easy.

Now they both auto power on/off when I get in my car.
