So I went to my dealer for a 25k service check. I was told it's basically an oil change and some other misc stuff but it's covered under Audi Care. So I'm sitting at a salesman's desk (he is a very close friend) to kill the time while I wait the hour for my car. I look out the window and see a '13 Estoril Blue S4. I asked him about it and he perked up. He's like, "Yea, you'd like that one. Let's go check it out". So we went to look at it. No intention of buying it and he knew that. We were just killing time. As I'm looking at the car I realize it has just about everything my car has plus a few other options that are kinda cool. I ask him the price and was shocked at his answer. I said, "Let's go sit down and talk about this".

Long story short, I went to the dealer for an oil change and ended up buying a new car. I worked out a great deal for myself and ended up trading my 2012 Phantom Black DSG with 25k miles for a 2013 Estoril Blue (which I love) DSG with 7k miles. Someone else already took the hit and I bought the car right. There were some other factors that went into this decision but not worth going into. But the best part is I'm paying less now than I was for my 2012 with no money out of pocket. All in all a really good deal.

Here are some pics from my camera phone. I definitely notice and feel some differences between the model years. First impressions between the two will come in a later post.

Congrats! Pretty much did the same thing when I traded in my '12 P+ Ibis for my '13 Prestige Glacier (updated technology package pretty much sealed the deal for me): in for service, out with a new car.

Sounds like quite a deal, congrats. Was the fact that your buddy was willing/able to eat some commission here the only way you walked out with a newer car for less money and no out of pocket? Only asking because despite having some good relationships at my dealership, things never seem to work out this well for me financially:)

Beautiful car!

Question...I'm about to order a 2014 S4. Do these seats look the same in person as they do in pictures? The reason I ask is because they call them "silver alcantara" when in every picture I have seen they look white?

They are a very very light color silver, very similiar to white from Picts, I personally would consider them white with a hint of silverish/grey. They look really awesome and just brings the interior out. I got silver nappa in my cars cause it feels like its gonna be a lot easier to wipe off any dirt over alcantara

Most pics don't accurately represent the silver...just like the magma (red) seats. The color is off with the flash used in most shots. The silver seats do look silver in person though...kinda like a creamy very light gray.

Beautiful car!

Op has a lower payment, not lower price! It was achieved cause he now has 60 payments remaining instead of 48-55 payments that he had on his 12, assuming that he did a 5yr finance. It wouldn't have happened if the 13 that he picked up was new instead of used. Its a really awesome upgrade though regardless.. Good job!

Beautiful car!

The salesman happens to be a very close friend and I wanted him to make something on the deal. I like seeing my friends do well. But I honestly don't know what he did behind the scenes. I just bought it right and his commission didn't even come up. Had it come up I wouldn't have asked him to reduce it. I don't know what they make per car but a few hundred dollars doesn't mean anything to me either way. When financed it comes out to a few dollars a month.

The alcantara seats are basically a silver-ish white. Don't be fooled. They are very light. They look very close to my pictures. The camera in my phone is 13MP and pretty damn good. There was no sun so it was just regular ambient light. I had black napa leather before which I really needed because I'm hard on seats. I'm constantly in an out of the car and they get dirty. But seeing the silver/white middle against the black just looks so cool. Plus its on the doors, too. I know they are going to get really dirty but I will figure out a way to protect them.

Are you paying less now because the '13 doesn't have Nav on it? :p Tell me you didn't give that up as an option compared to your old one.

I didn't have Nav before and don't have it now either. The payment is lower because I had a good amount of equity in my car and I got a really good deal. I drive a hard bargain. :)

I will do the same. I'm in Boynton. Where are you? I always see black, white and silver or gray. I guess these are the only colors the local dealers order. I rarely see an S4 with color but I get excited when I do. :) I started an Audi Club but I haven't done a meet in a while. I used to do them every month or so. It's time to get some people together for a meet. I'll work on that.

Nice job OP! If I had your balls, I might be in a different car right now.

I don't even know what got into me. I am NOT one to make such a big decision so quickly. Although I have been really wanting a blue S4, I had no intention of buying a car. My car wasn't even two years old. But once I noticed it had the same things I had, like the carbon fiber, sport diff, DSG, etc. plus some stuff I didn't have (B&O, drive select, advance key, and it was BLUEEEE) the wheels started turning. Should I do this? Can I make it work? Do I really need a new car??? It started off innocent enough. Then we talked numbers and it got intriguing. Some back and forth and I was happy with the purchase price and trade. And I am not easy to negotiate with. When I bought my '12 they hated me. I'm surprised they didn't kick me out of the dealership. But I got this one on my terms so I said "F' it. Let's do it. Maybe I got lucky, maybe they just wanted to move the car.

Point is, if you get an opportunity like that - seize it! You owe it to yourself. I have no regrets.

Congratulation! I like that color too but it's kinda hard for me to bite the bullet just to get an almost identical car with just new color.

BTW, there are a couple of GT-R around my area and I can't deny that I'm very tempted to move on.

I think dealers (if reading this) should learn from this lesson! (I typically loathe dealers, as I have had almost as many bad [headbang]experiences at them than positive ones)

Most people waiting for an oil change sit in the waiting room and watch 'The View" on TV while their car is serviced. This is a great opportunity to introduce yourself (the salesperson) to those waiting! I would require my salespeople to interact with those in the waiting room rather than congregate outside smoking and trolling the lot.
Rant off....

BTW...great purchase! Enjoy the ride!![drive]

Great choice! The color looks amazing in the sunlight. There seems to be crystals in the paint. I guess it's crystals. My Phantom Black had "pearls" I think they called it. I had the black nappa and it was nice leather. Pretty durable but too hot for South Florida. Every time I would get in the car it would be like 120 degrees. I know I will get the silver alcantara dirty but I'm hoping it will help keep the car a little cooler.

Regardless of equity or receiving a good deal, the 2013 still cost more than the 2012. The only explanation for a lower payment is in the financing terms.

Well actually, the dealers do have good loyalty and "let's move the old stuff" bonuses. I had a significant amount discounted between turning my Q in early, loyalty, 2013 stock bonus, and a great sales rep who moved mountains, actually ended up being cheaper than my Q5. Granted, I got 25,000km per year instead of 30,000km, and a 4 year lease not a 3 year, but considering MSRP's it was a much better option. I think MSRPs were 55k compared to 62k but with something like $6000 discount and $4000 down that's probably what did it

The concept is still the same. They may have given you a great deal on the new car, but ultimately the payment is lower because you changed the financing (lease) terms.

You traded a seemingly lower valued car (2012 w/25k) for a higher valued car (2013 w/7k). I assume the dealer wanted more for the 2013 than they would give your for the 2012. The only way the payment goes down without adjusting the financing terms is to finance less money. You can see how I'm skpetical. Unless you brought additional cash to the table, or the dealer was willing to give you more for your trade than they wanted for the new car, a decrease in payment has to be related to the financing.

Congrats on the new car. Sounds like you got a deal and are happy. That's all that matters.

Congrats on the new car. Sounds like you got a deal and are happy. That's all that matters.

Payments went down mainly cause its a used 13 and op has to start his financing all over again. Had he re-financed his 12 to a totally new loan, his payments would be drastically reduced but all over again.. ($40k remaining balance with 40 payments remaining on his 12 = to $1000 monthly payments). ($45k balance on his new 13 but now with 60 payments instead of 40 = a substantially lowered monthly payment of $750 instead of the original $1000 a month payment) these numbers are just ( for example ) figures based on 0% apr for ease of calculation
