Been lurking around the forums for a bit and thinking about taking the plunge on my first luxury car.
Mostly been driving "normal" cars for the most part: Taurus, Civic (2), Integra(2), Mazda 3, several Fox body mustangs(3), an SN95 Cobra, Accord, Pathfinder, 9-2x. I'm in my midyears of my life and feel it's time to finally enjoy a nice, comfortable luxury car with some attitude. I Don't want to break the bank on something too wild but I'd like to stay in the $50K-$60K range and the S4 seems to fill that void. I tend to got through quite a few cars but maybe that's due to the fact that I've driven "average' cars and am always looking for something different and more fun?
I am also considering the 335i but I'm not crazy about run-flats nor paying extra for leather but it does fall in the same price range and is a capable car from what I've read. A few other vehicles I'm considering as well is the Mercedes C350, Acura TL (no folding rear seats [:(], Audi A6 3.0.
I enjoy maintaining my own cars and have good mechanical aptitude, plus I don't have much trust in dealerships. So I can prob save some cash doing my own maintenance. [:D]
As far as reliability, for the most part as long as you maintain your cars and don't drive the hell out of them they should be good for the most part as far as my experience. I know Audi has had their share of issues as do all manufacturers but they have gotten better over the years.
In terms of the S4 I have read about the water pump issues in early models and the mechatronics in the DSG (earlier models?).
I will be planning on scheduling test drives for the various cars to get a feel for each.
Anyway, I'd like to hear your opinions. Thanks.
