I'm looking for a short block for my 1999 Passat with the AEB engine.

Anybody know if the early Audi TT's have a compatible block with an external water pump and shaft driven oil pump like the AEB or ATW?

as far as i know all TT have water pumps driven off the timing belt i dont think any tt had a external water pump. However a older 1.8 vw engine from mid80s to early 90s would do the job.Vw 2.0 engine block would be a nice upgrade if you had acesss to custom pistions. It all depends if you wanna go crazy or not.If you just looking to replace the bottom end a older vw engine would probably be the best choice however I am not sure if they had oil squirters or not if not you would have to put them in.

However I dont see why you cant just ran a newer bottom end with the aeb head im sure its been doen before.Vwvortex has alot more of these type of hybrid engine threads as its very common with vw guys.

I wonder if a 2.0 block with a head spacer would work??
Opinions....
