View Full Version : Lights are on?
Anyone know why, when my door is open, the display tells me my lights are on rather than telling me my door is open? Seems kinda dumb...

Check to see if your lights are in "auto" mode or not... move it there. There is a setting that actually keeps the lights "on" vs the auto mode.

Yes if you set it to the city lights position it will keep the lights on and beep/display warning that lights are on when you try to exit.
I drive with city lights all the time as I like to have fogs + full leds without LB all the time.

^ When you say "city lights", which setting are you referring to? The one immediately to the right of "auto" on the dial? And if that's the case, IIRC I had to go into VCDS and set it so that I could run the LEDs with the fogs without turning on the low beams. I could be wrong, though.....that was a few months ago and I don't remember that clearly.
That being said, in "auto" mode if I turn on the fog lights, my low beams also come on.

No, you don't need VCDS to do this - just one click to the right of Auto for "Parking Lights Only," and the front ambers come on, then you push the Fogs button and you have Ambers/LED DRL's and Fogs - no VCDS needed. But when my lights are in the Auto mode and I open my car - usually it's the "Coming Home," feature when I pull into the garage when it's sunny out, but the dark garage causes my lights to come on and I get the Lights On warning.

You can code that warning out
Ok, I always leave my lights in "auto" mode so I am still not sure why it is doing this.

Sry misread, you do not need Vcds to use city lights.
You need Vcds to code the full brightness of the LEDs in city mode.

Did you enable the Euro parking lights (activated by the turn signal stalk)?
Had it happen to me once. Opened the door and got the light chime. Checked and checked again and could not figure out why it was saying my lights were on. Light switch was in OFF position. Finally figured out the turn signal stalk did not disengage after I pulled into the parking spot. Put stalk back in the mid posistion and no more chime.
Just a guess.
No I didn't enable anything. It's been doing this since I bought the car. If the lights are off and I open the door with the car running in day light, then it tells me the door is open, which is normal and what I want all the time. If I'm in my garage or it's at night and the lights have been automatically turned on, it tells me "lights are on" when I open my door even if the car is running. I would think the more important information would be the open door. I hate that it tells me the the lights are on when I open the door. Makes zero sense.

My A4 does the same thing! Not sure why. Doesn't really bother me though.

Because the door being open is pretty obvious. Leaving your lights on probably is not. Having them set to Auto will do this. Also, I think the coming home delay being set to on will also trigger this as well. Think of it as more of an informational thing.... also, the door being open is also shown in the dash... it eventually shows up after a few seconds.
