Just ordered two sets of Potenza Re11's 245/35r-19 for $1184 $148/tire from tirerack! Just looking out for fellow members because this is just a insane deal on tires that are well over $300. Just a quick question though... I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have a problem with this size tire for the stock 19" peelers right? Because the 245/40r-19 are almost twice the price and I couldn't understand why? Is it safe to run the sidewall a little thinner, I wouldn't see why not? Thanks in advance, just needed some reassurance! -Daniel

The stock 19" tire size is 255/35 R19 so your tread will be 10mm less wide in the RE11s. Otherwise you should be fine.

245 is fine on an 8.5. The narrower tire and same sidewall profile means you'll have a smaller rolling diameter... right at 1.1% so pretty much negligible..

Good to know thanks for feedback!

OP,

One thing to watch out for on tires that are on closeout is they have probably been on the shelf for a couple years. I bought RE-01s on closeout a few years ago when the RE-11 came out. The RE-01s I bought were already almost 3 years old. You shouldn't use a tire more than 6 years past it's manufacture date, even if they've been in storage the whole time. The rubber degrades and tire failure becomes much more probable.

Since you bought 2 sets. The one you don't install could already be nearing 3 years old and nearing 6 years old by the time you install them.

Was thinking of ordering a set for my b8. Only thing i am afraid of is handling characteristics of the vehicle being negatively affected by going down from 255 to 245. When i had my M3 i got thinner tires and it resulted in bad handling due to less traction coming from tires. Anyone have any input on that?

The re11 run "wide" you will be fine, especially with how grippy the tires are

The tires were manufactured in june 2012. So I'm guessing I can burn through these in less than five years. Still sounds crazy for 2 sets of tires for under 1200 and why are only this size this cheap and sizes around it almost twice as expensive. All I know is they already shipped them out. So we'll see. Thanks for the heads up Vogs!

Awesome! Good luck with them. RE-11 is a fantastic tire.

The RE-11A just came out so they want to clear old inventory. Definitely grab the 11s and enjoy!

i have RE-11's on my car now and had them on my RS4. fantastic grip and low road noise. they're a bit heavy and bulky but im ok with that considering how shitty road conditions are in the north east

You're looking at the RE-11A.

Price was $147 and I'm guessing it was a misprint on the site or me posting this up just nearly cleared their inventory... Just got the tires in and they were actually manufactured in december 2012!! I'm regretting only buying 2 sets... Could've easily bought 10 sets and sold them for a little more and made some money!
