View Full Version : How to clear ABS, Brakes and Airbag lights!

Recently bought a 98 A4 and knowingly inherited a couple issues. I'm here today to talk about the Brake Control Module (Bosch 5.7).

If you find that the ABS, Brakes and Airbag lights on the dash are on or blinking, this module could probably be the issue.

It is located under the hood on the driverís side toward the front by the window washer fluid. It is composed of three parts, the Electronic Brake Traction Control Module, Brake Pressure Modulator Valve and the Pump. The problems typically are with the Electronic Brake Traction Control Module.

To remove it you will have to take off the tire, inner fender piece, the window washer reservoir and a plastic brace that keeps the reservoir from coming out.

The Module itself takes a Torx screwdriver to remove and is held in by 6 screws.

Once out make sure to wrap it in plastic wrap to keep the solenoids from falling out!!!

There are many companies that re-manufacture the Control Module, the one that I am working though is called BBA Reman http://www.bba-reman.com/us/ It is costing me $200 plus shipping.
If you have a mechanic do it as I almost did, they will send the module in as well but charge you way more! Do it yourself and cut out the middle man.

I am sending my module in today.

I do have one question however for anyone who can answer, after I get the re-manufactured part back, I need to clear my A4's computer of the errors so that the lights go off and it can pass inspection.

Can I drive it 50 miles or so for it to clear? or do I actually need to go get a VAG to do it manually.

You need VAGCOM to clear it manually.

So theres no way driving it like 50 miles would clear the erros/lights on the dash?

See answer above your last post.

These are pretty simple to fix with like $3 worth of silver paste.

ABS turns off after the issue is fixed automatically.

The only light you need VAG to fix it the Airbag light, IIRC.

Though, I also remember reading that if the airbag actually blew, you need a whole new module. I'm not 100% sure.

I had my airbag light on because I took my steering wheel off and needed to VAG it off.
