What are the real risks with Intake's causing problems for your B8 or b8.5?
I have tuned cars in the past and this mod had no adverse effects, but I want to make sure I do not underestimate the change for cars with advanced ECU's.
I do not plan to Tune until I am sure that the dealer will not detect the tune.
Will the dealer blame my intake if something goes wrong with my engine?
Is the claim that it adds 12-15 whp really true due to the bottle neck of the stock air box?

Not really a risk since a) the dealership would have to manually enter it and piss of a customer and b) it's a 15 minute job to swap intakes

Very unlikely to get manually TD1'd for an intake. 99% of the time, it's only done via checksums on the ECU, not visual inspections.

And if your dealer is handing out TD1's for intakes, it's time to find a new dealer.

Risks are minimal. However - I have heard of people getting CEL's due to oil spraying on the mass airflow sensor... the B8 does not have this sensor however it does have mass air pressure sensors... I'm running my aftermarket intake with a dry filter (stock one) because I've had the oil spray issue on past cars and just won't want to risk it... but most people are running the oil'd filters with no issue.

That issue simply cannot occur on our cars. Pretty much impossible. There are zero reported instances of MAP problems due to filter oil. I believe the MAP sensor is on the other side of the SC anyways, as it definitely isn't in the intake hose like a MAF sensor is.

Unless you like to hear the S/C whine, just drop in a K&N replacement filter and call it a day. Generally speaking, factory airboxes/intakes are very well engineered these days making the aftermarket intake gains insignificant to very minimal.

Highly unlikely this much HP added with an intake... more like 3-5 at best. An AWE exhaust and an intake provides (maybe) 10-15HP gain.

I thought we do not have a MAF.

No worries. I've had my Strat "Roc-Euro" Intake for 32K miles and zero issues other than the tube was rubbing on the AC line and just tightened / stuck & layered some electrical tape in the area now its fine if it rubs. They won't TD1 you if you just have an intake...at least my dealer didn't but I have a very good relationship there.

I beielive there are 3 MAP sensors - two on the intake side before the cylinders and one on the exhaust side... this is how I was explained it by an SA I had this identical question about. He told me he's seen a few MAP sensors go bad due to oil on intake filters.

This is incorrect. Just replacing the filter will do nothing. K&N filters are known to be over oiled and if you do get issues from oil it will probably be from one of these filters. The stock intake tube in the B8 is engineered full of baffles and is not efficient. It has ridges on the inside and a large baffle on the side of the tube, it's like this to supress the SP noise because the engineers felt customers would not want to hear it. Replacing the tube alone is the biggest improvement most noticeable in throttle response.

Just change the air filter every year or at least clean it really well. No 3 year interval when you go to a high flow filter. IMO you need a tune to get the most out of it.
