Hey guys, new to the forum and new to Audi. I have a 2000 A4 Quattro with an AC problem. I diagnosed it to be the clutch slipping on the compressor, I dont believe the compressor is bad but I ordered a rebuilt comp and clutch anyway. I also want to replace the filter while I have the system discharged. I am not sure if the receiver/dryer has a filter in it? I found it for $30 so its not a bad idea to just replace it anyway, but I hate to replace it if it doesn't even have a filter in it. Any insight?

Thanks, Kev

If you've had the system open then replace the drier. its job is to retain the moisture left behind from a service when the system is opened. There is a "filter" of sorts in the orifice. Remove the two (allen?) bolts on the smaller of the two pipe flanges to the firewall, the orifice tube/ filter screen is in there.

It is not a receiver. It is a filter/drier (same unit). You answered your own question. Always replace the filter/drier if the system is exposed to open air.
