Anyone from here going. Since my car is still down I doubt I'll make the Yellowstone trip, so I may just try to get down to this.

I'm fairly sure I'm going to make it down. Always wanted to head down and I'll have the day off. We're considering staying the night before so we don't have to leave Denver at like 3am.

More info on the campsite. As per here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/coconino/recreation/ohv/recarea/?recid=55316&actid=70 there is no camping?!?

Also in general how do tickets work? Is there a spectating area that's free?

There IS camping for the race.http://www.ppihc.com/camping-information/

Fan fest on Friday is free. The race is up the mountain. So to spectate, you need to be ON the mountain... They check tickets about 3mi + down from even the start so unless you watch on from binoculars from a mountain top near pikes peak, you'll need a ticket.

I think red bull will have a live webcast, that is free.

Yeah I saw those links, I was hoping there was another option. As that makes the trip about $200 for me and my boys. Take some good pics!!!

Seems like its always been an expensive endevour for a family. I remember a few years growing up when my dad couldn't pull it off and we'd just do fan fest but no race spectating :(. My son is only 3, so 7 more years of free tickets for him is a good thing. 100$ to camp is insane too....a decent hotel isn't even that much!

I was thinking about it but I won't be going but since it's a "once you're there, you're there 'til it's over".... I'll pass. I completely understand why, but especially with no dirt left.... meh. I'm scared to even check ticket prices. I had a buddy out visiting about 2 years ago and we were all in my truck, but when we got to the gate and found out it was $30 PER PERSON just to drive to the top... screw that. $20 gets you a WEEK of access to RMNP. For $80 I can get a National Park Pass and have 1 full year access to every National park for 1 CARLOAD.

Yeah, it's not cheap, but it's been on my bucket list for a while and I think this year should show some pretty blistering times. Should be an exciting year to attend.
