I have a 2008 A4 3.2 tip quattro with almost 25,000 miles. I have been noticing a very weird problem where the RPM's hesitate while under constant throttle and you feel a momentary lapse in power, but then a second or later it continues to accelerate. It happens in 3rd gear for the most part and is less noticeable but definitely still there in sport mode. When the car is cold it almost feels like a shift into 4th gear but you can tell that it's not. Ive searched every forum and nobody seems to have the same problem i have so i thought i would post a video showing exactly what it is doing. I hope someone can help! Thanks!

I honestly don't understand what you are trying to show here. The Tach never goes over 3k and your in 6th @ 40mph. It's probably a combination of the transmission software and your feather-weight foot.

I'm trying to show how the rpms just randomly drops before it shifts into 4th gear. Watch the gear indicator!

Again I think is just the software. It's not like you're WOT and it's behaving like that.

What if you manually switch gears, do you still experience the lag from 3rd to 4th? I think i had something similar on a mkiV jetta.

Try doing the throttle bottle reset also. I forgot how to do it since i don't have a tip, but a search should yield some results.

Yeah I believe your right but it's not normal so I guess I need to know where to go from here. It does it under WOT too and I can take a video of that also. It's just really frustrating cuz I loose power momentarily

Yes it hesitates in the "manual" mode also and I have reset the throttle body and also had the dealership re-flash the ecu which didn't do much. I'm just at a dead end and need some ideas because it's really weird

And only in 3rd gear?

It's only in third gear when in normal drive mode but in sport mode it is second gear

If it were only in one gear, I would think that it was the gear itself, but as it is in multiple gears, my guess would be the torque converter or the sensor.

Right, which sensor are you referring to?

I believe that the torque converter is controlled by some solenoids, but to be honest, I'm not 100% how it works. You need to find someone local with a VAGCOM and log the torque converter value (i don't recall what module, hopefully someone will chime in). Post values. The ZF transmission has been known to have "issues" with the torque converter. You may also want to contact Sam at 517.

Okay sounds good! I'll give it a look, I'm just hoping I don't have to replace the torque converter that would be expensive
