So i have owned my A4 for about 7 weeks, been driving it kinda hard since i got it. the last day or so i can hear a dentist drill noise as the turbo spool's or unspool's. haven't inspected anything yet, but i am pretty sure its the turbo, and its probably toast.
I have been looking into replacements and i have noticed the price difference between the chinese ebay turbos and factory replacement. anyone have any good experiences with chi-turbos ?.
Since i am pretty sure i will be replacing it, i want to do something better than the factory k03. currently the engine is basically stock , except for the cone filter and exhaust and a mbc .
Looking for suggestions of parts i will need along with the turbo itself to do it right.

turbo options?
were to buy?
budget aprox 1000$

Welcome, a few things:

The question you are asking is been asked before, just look for some old threads. People here are much more helpful if you do some leg work first. Here are a few:

Second, you get what you pay for. I don't have any experience with the eBay turbos, but I would trust my money to a reputable company, just to be safe. Hopefully someone will chime in with better info.

Last but not least, this question depends on many things, such as your goals, the health of the engine, how much you want to spend and what supporting mods you have done already just to name a few. I would recommend reading up on some of the build threads in the tech forum to get an idea of what you may need. Also, just a warning, turbos are like politics around here, every one believes something different, and sometimes it can get vocal. Good luck and happy wrenching!

Ps: take a look at a franken turbo kit (This is just a starting point, you may need to do a lot more research)

I once did an ebay build with a 1990 Talon TSi. I ran a GT35r Godspeed knockoff. The turbo was junk. All of the parts were pretty much junk. I would never ever recommend using ebay parts on a daily driver, especially one that's expensive to deal with like an Audi. The stuff is fun for a side project to throw on the dyno, but as an everyday, reliable option, no way.

Save your money in the long run. Buy a genuine product for this car. Shooting a knockoff turbo through your engine is going to piss you off pretty hard in a few months when it lets go. And it will.

a used k04 sounds very reasonable for your situation. I would start researching there. Maybe a Frankenturbo for another step up from that. But a k04 will be a nice little bump in power with very minimal supporting mods/ cost.

As always though, do all maintenance first...

Thanks for the input guys, i did some more research on these godspeed junk turbos, and definitley will not be putting a chi-turbo on my ride. Been searching around seeing if i can find a used K04 , but seems to be almost impossible. . My budget is right around a 1000bux so not sure if i can get a franken turbo for that kind of money.. Any good used car part websites that could be recomended to check out?

I got my turbo (k04) from buyautoparts.com and haven't had a problem yet (3K+ miles)

I just purchased the K04 from BuyAutoParts yesterday to replace my 2001 K03 with 250K. How is it holding up for you at this point in time?
