so i was driving today and i notice that my temp gauge started to go above standard and it was rising, i parked the car started to check and i notice a bit smell of coolant, 4 hrs later i started my car up took it back home which is a hr drive and temp gauge started to rise again and as i was going up a steep hill i notice my car was lagging power and my turbo wouldnt spool? was in the low rpm and car felt like it was trying to turn off no smoke or anything. any ideas what it could be?

What is your coolant level?
What is your oil level and what does it look like?
If you have a gauge, what are your EGT's?
In my experience, your coolant gets hot when one of these happen:
1) You arent moving and you dont have a fan
2) You a working the engine like crazy
3) You are low on coolant
4) Your EGT's are very high
5) Things that are much worse that we arent going to talk about quite yet ;-)

1) Evaporative Emission Control System
2) Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) Sensor Range/Performance Problem
3) Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Inappropriately Low
4) System Too Lean
5) EVAP emissions control system leak detected
6) System to Lean Bank one Error

So I fixes most of the codes it was reading. But my turbo still doesn't seem to spool and car still over heats. What I notice is that it only over heats when I'm driving and when I'm just sitting it goes back to normal, could that be a water pump issue??

How did you fix the issues?
Running lean can make your cylinder temps hot and then oil and coolant try to take the heat.
