View Full Version : This is why you don't buy raceland coilovers

background: girlfriend bought me them a couple christmas's ago. i figured, what the hell i'll throw them in. directly after the install, the back left corner made a terrible thump driving over semi-large bumps and potholes. i took the whole unit out a couple times, but didnt find anything wrong. figured they were just shitty. but it finally got to me and i called raceland. they sent me a new one, but not without a credit card on file "in case there was installation error, you'd be liable for the $75 cost of the shock." i figured i'd try it out. so i take the thing apart today. still, nothing wrong with it but i did notice the one they sent me seemed better, perhaps more revised. as i pull the actually shock out, it fell apart. more specifically, the shock came out of the lower tube. it is supposed to be welded on the bottom, but literally must have came apart right away to provide me with my clunk. what i figured would happen is since i have them fairly low, every time i would go over a pothole, the upper part of the shock would stay with the mount, and the lower part of the shock would stay with the a arm, thus seperated, when they came back together, they would clunk. needless to say, i am now comptemplating seeing if i can get new shocks for all corners.

so kids, dont do crack cause if you do you'll end up with shitty raceland coilovers on your audi. save your crack money for a decent setup

There are so many mixed reviews on these.

Some have compared them to more expensive setups.

Others have had poor experience.

Remember ST is doing a $100 mail in rebate for the month of June and I have the lowest price around.

Raceland has obvious quality issues.

People who compared these to more expensive setups have not road in more expensive setups or did not push both setups.

thanks for the pm. I'll have to ponder it. All my funds are currently going towards something more productive than my car. I'll be going back to school, but if I come across some spare money, its possible.

To all others, I just wanted to show the obvious quality issues with these. The rears coulve been designed so this type of failure wasn't possible. Some times, cheap shit works just fine. This time it doesnt

My sister has had racelands on her tc for about 4 years now. She's had no problems. Just depends I guess.

$764 - $100 rebate. Is that including free shipping? On ebay, I offered $675 shipped but this is a little cheaper. I'm interested..

The video for racelands show the spring and shock coming off the top mount without a spring compressor? Do you just relax the spring as far as it can go and take it apart? My rear shock is doing the same thing...

Vogtlands now?

This. My Vogtlands ride so great and i'm lowered with just about no gap between fender and top of tire. If i got them again i'd spend the extra for the GT3 version.

Edit: Just looked at the dates. Sorry for bumping this relic

yeah, I was searching for info on Racelands... You don't need the spring compressor for the rears if they are all the way decompressed with the adjuster perch thing. If anyone knows what struts they use that could be helpful, as I think I need a new one, and i've read they are 75 or so shipped from Raceland, not confirmed.

I never understood people who cheap out on one of the most important parts of the car. Tires, brakes then suspension.

Because delayed gratification is something many folks, especially these young scenesters, cannot grasp.

lol Racelands. I hated mine on my MK5 but loved them on my MK4. Makes no sense

They were alright to me. I'd go for Bilsteins or a higher quality brand if I was to do it again though.

I have bilstein/HR combo on my avant. There is no comparison. Racelands suck.

So, they're good I'd imagine? Might look into those for my A6.

My Racelands have had this godawful mystery squeak for the last 2,000 or so miles since install. Drives me fckin crazy.

Just throwing in. ....gfs 1.8QMT has a seized coilover on the rear passenger side. ...they seem to ride just ok...but I went to bring them up an inch, aaaaand sigh.
Looks like the whole corner is coming off. ...2 hours later.
