98 A4 Quattro

I'm sure this has been asked before so I apologize if its somewhere else. I have a 98 A4 Quattro. It has the 2.8 but mods are too expensive for the gain I'll get. What motor swap would be the easiest to do as far as bolting up and such. Also hoping mods will be cheaper. I'm assuming the 1.8t but wanted to ask you gear heads. Thanks for reading.

probably cheaper to just buy a 1.8t if your planning to go with that engine anyway..unless your 98 as sentimental value or something

From a parts buying standpoint, "dropping" in a 2.7t would be easier than a 1.8t. Same subframe, radiator, mounts, etc. With the 1.8t you'd need those parts and more. Though, if you found a complete donor car that was wrecked or something, that would be the cheapest route if you want the 1.8t.

Better jump on it before someone else does. They are getting really hard to come by.

so if i pulled the 2.8 the 2.7 would go in just as the 2.8 did? if its really that easy ill do that. im wanting to build a show car for summers when i come home from college but lack the knowledge of audi set ups. would the straight 6 2.8 24 valve have more mod ablilties? the motor out of golf's

are you talking about vr6's? both those and 2.7's can be found in excess of 1000hp. however, the 2.7 v6 will be much easier to fit in your car. that, an ecu, harness, and a big single turbo and you will have plenty of hp. a b5 vr6 build isnt easy. theres not many of them out there

however much the donor car cost, plus modification costs. if you are putting in a 2.7, youll want the engine, ecu, harness, cluster, and realistically the transmission. probably plenty of other little parts i'm unaware of because the slighest entertainment of the idea in my head reduces my bank account size. but having a 2.8 would make it easier to swap a 2.7 into it
