Installed this the other day with some 3M tape. Looks alright to me. Opinions?

There was no need for a new tread. Looks ok. I would be surprised if it holds for a very long time with just 3M

It will definitely hold up, 3M tape is the way to go. I've put on spoilers with it before and it held up just fine!

I had a spoilers on my b6 for 2 years with just 3m...stuff sticks real well
When I run out of cabin room I stick my passengers to the outside of my car with 3M tape, holds real well....except for that one time...

Really? I guess in UK you don't have the fabulous 3M tapes? Instead you would drill holes in the trunk to install it?

My son's old E30 was almost entirely held together with 3M tape. No joke.
there are different grades of 3M tape. There are other adhesives out in the market also, you just have to find out what the oz/in is and make an engineering judgement.
