After purchasing my vehicle last october, just yesterday i found out that it was already flashed with APR stg 2. After doing alot of research and reading, it seems that Unitronic delivers the most performance out of the 2.0t engines. Both dealers are the same distance from me...so please dont tell me go to the one that is closer to you. My options are:

1. switch over to Unitronic and enjoy the better performance of their stg 2 file compared to the APR stg 2 file for $650? and down the road, when ready to upgrade turbo, upgrade all the necessary hardware (HPFP internals), which Uni will accommodate big turbo files.

2. stay with APR and upgrade to their stg2+ for the same $650 (probably to get the same performance as the Uni stg 2 file, this is just my believe), plus $40 that the shop will charge my to upgrade the file for the HPFP, plus whatever shipping costs to APR to have it bench tested and taking the chance that my current HPFP is not going to handle the upgrade kit, which will make me buy their new pump for a little over $1k dollars.

If i go option 1, I can have more time to save more money for a turbo upgrade and little by little gather all the parts necessary without dropping a big chunck of money at once.
if i go option 2 , im taking a gamble either ~$750, or ~$1k.

Opinions please.

I have ready every thread possible on HPFP upgrades. I am not asking which company to buy it from, nor which one is more reliable. Or better yet, which option would you be leaning towards?

Thank you in advance.

Of the two, go stage II+ with APR. You need an updated HPFP for going to the next step anyways, and also you likely wont use any off the shelf tunes once you hit Stage III, so switching saves you nothing.

Won't you just have to pay the difference between 2 and 2+ if you go APR?

It is free upgrade, you just have to buy a HPFP upgrade. You can even buy an upgraded pump from somewhere else if you want and still get the free upgrade. Well, free except for the 40 he is paying the shop to reflash him. Pretty good deal from APR on this one.

It's not a free upgrade EPY, unless it's done differently over there. 2 to 2+ APR is $80 :\

Really? semi-local APR dealer near me charges .5 hr of labor to reflash- about $25-30. Its only for their 'labor' and not an APR fee.

Same here, I was charged .5 labour fee from the vendor, the 2 - 2+ flash is "supposed" to be an $80 charge according to the APR rep I e-mailed before hand. Just an FYI for others.

I haggled it down to $50 but yeah, it's not free like the other flashes from what I was told

edit: not to derail your topic OP, sorry. I think Option 2 is in your better interest like Eric has already stated

I actually used to have APR tune on my car, and ran there tune for stage I, II, and II+. When I went from II to II+, I called in to APR and they told me it was free except for whatever the shop charged to flash it. I was lucky that the shop didn't even charge for their time, so it was totally free for me :) This was over a year ago, so thinks might have changed. Maybe Arin will see this thread and chime in. Or call in to APR first to make sure; it may be shop by shop, but I would think they have a consistent requirement for everyone.

My 2 to 2+ was a free flash. Some shops charge labour, it is not APR's mandate to charge for upgrade flash (IMO the best part about going APR).

OP, you already have a flash. There is no was you will see the same power from Uni 2 vs APR 2+, the money you will spend on a new flash could get you an APR HPFP to go 2+, which is more power than Uni 2..

I say Unitronic but that's because I have Unitronic and I'm biased.

I'd say go with APR Stage2+/hpfp. You could also stay where you're at and get an exhaust [:/]

Dude if you already have APR, stay with APR, otherwise just go straight to Maestro. It can be tuned for2+ and is capable of going stage3 with only hardware changes. To me this is a no brainer, stay APR if 2+ if the most you ever want to do or want to save dough until you get the hardware, and Maestro if you plan on going stage3 soon and want to squeeze ever hp out of the k03.

I was in the same position a year ago and chose to get the HPFP and go APR 2+ rather than change my software. It was well worth it. The upgrade made the car drive so much smoother as well as deliver more power. Stick with APR for now and in the future if you feel like upgrading move over to Maestro.
