View Full Version : 1,000 Car Street Racing Club in Denver on Sunday nights?

I have ZERO interest in joining them, but was curious if anyone had heard of this before. I just thought it was interesting.

http://www.9news.com/news/article/334563/339/Possible-street-racing-leads-to-serious-car-wreck

A - Who are these people? (I imagine it was all the people from the CUSCC car show... Plus the cast of 2 Fast 2 Furious, Tokyo Drift. [;)])

B - How can you race 300-1,000 cars anywhere? How can this possibly work?

C - On a Sunday night? So strange.

D - How do you roll your car on I-70 and C-470? (Lol at the Accord)

So many questions... I know nothing about this, but figured someone here could shed some light on this craziness.

i forget the name of the group, but its all mostly jdm. And they have scheduled meets where cars just keep pulling one after the other on the highway.

i highly doubt 300-1000 cars meet up. i bet its closer to 30-100. how much length do 1000 cars take on a 4 lane highway lol? that would be 250 car lengths, seeing as they're JDM lets estimate 15 ft long cars and 10ft gap in between each one, 6000+ ft long caravan (over a mile)

we did it in cincy for a good five year stretch, it can happen... 300-1000 cars, shutting down highways, overtaking mall lots, etc... oh the glory days...

nationwide meet.. it's every sunday night and in the summer there's 1000's.. this meet has been going on forever.. even before nationwide took it over.

and there are tons of kids there that are reckless drivers.. crashes all the time [down][mad].. stupidity at it's finest.

There are more civilized groups out there if your looking for midnight rolls w/ no traffic... lookouts and cb radios... and no hondas.... haha

it's actually the nationwide meets. there are somewhere around 300 cars that actually meet up but i don't think anywhere near 1000. my younger buds go to them every sunday (even tried to get me to go) and apparently last night some noobs decided to race and well...

Extra: You Tell him Dominic. Get out of here
Dom: Now, me and the mad scientist got to rip apart the block... and replace the piston rings you fried.
Dom: Ask any racer. Any real racer. It don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning's winning."

I mean..sure. Lol I'm just breaking balls. It's tough having air or lack thereof hold the car back as far as performance goes.

Explain.

If you have forced induction the loss in performance is not nearly as drastic as NA since the air is compressed prior to entering the engine.

This is true. However, I was referring to the difference between sea level and 6000' DA.

6000' would be nice but it normally hovers around 8-9000' DA here in Denver. Naturally aspirated cars lose about 25% of there power but FI cars don't lose nearly that. So it can still be fun. Especially when you messing with NA cars.

Edited for niceness.

Its all relative. But if you have FI, you can beat cars you wouldn't be able to beat at sea level. So in a way, high elevations are great for racing depending on who you are trying to beat. For instance, in Colorado I hang with a 450hp R8. At Sea Level, I would get destroyed. So if you like beating naturally aspirated cars, and you have forced injection, then Colorado is great for racing. I hope that answers your question.

I see what you mean comparing FI to NA. My opinion on racing in CO was more so to make a real excuse for myself not to go big power on a 2.7 (which is what I really want to do) since I'm moving up soon.

Not gonna lie i go to this once in a while but on my bike
i did take my car once just for fun, was meeting some friends there did a few pulls with a R32 stage 2
last month one sunday did have close to 1000 cars, and yes half of them did go on the cruise
It nice to go once in a while just to see some cars but its really just a headache.

a few audi's have been going counted 7 b5s4's a few 1.8t's and maybe 4 b6/b7 s4's

there is another post about this somewhere. The Nationwide meets started from the meets in the starbucks parking lot off Mississippi and Colorado Blvd in 05' But "nationwide" only had two fast civics, one k20A swap that beat a black gt28 b5 s4 setup from a 40 roll and their other one was rather slow. These meets are crowed with rice and just plain shittiness however if you follow the cruise out and just go too their first few stops the group thins out from seriously 800+ cars to under 50 by 1-2am. That's when the real racing begins, not to mention the extremely fast guys typically don't go to the first part of the meet, cops with cameras, shitty people, reckless etc... etc... If you haven't been to one its worth it just to go and see the crazy amount of cars that actually do come out. Its def not for everyone. After all the dumbass people leave, I'm talking after 2am, that's when the real "meet" starts. Good clean racing, never had a bad experience then. But before 2am stay to the back and out of the way so much fail around its hard to avoid.

I didn't end up going. I saw that tickets were being handed out at Microcenter as well. From what I can tell that accident ruined the event as it attracted a lot of attention. I wonder how they will continue the event if the cops use facebook to shut it down.

I just wanted to go around and interview the owners of the shittiest cars to pretend I thought their car was cool, see Paul Walker wannabes, maybe hand out a few "rice citations". [:D] jk...

As long as you didn't put on the S5 badge.

I was cleaning the garage yesterday when my wife came across the RS4 badge that came with my grille:

"Aren't you going to out this on?"

"I might be dragged from the car and beaten... so no... let's go ahead and throw it away."

For the record, I wasn't planning on making anyone feel bad about their car. I agree that isn't cool. But in the back of my head, yeah I be trollin'.
