Hi guys, so I have a 2006 Audi A4 witha Pioneer Navi installed and when I turn the car on even if the volume is at 0 it makes an annoying noise. The previous owner said that it picks up static, i dont know exactly what that means. Has anyone else experienced anything like this before or know what I should do about this?

Thanks.

What kind of noise? does it change with RPM of the engine? First guess would be a bad ground.

no it does not change with RPM. I dont know how to describe the noise, its like if you touch the end of your 3.5mm jack and the volume is very high, do you know what i mean?

Yep, I know exactly the sound. Kind of like a buzzing interferance, I would take it out from the dash and check the connections first. It sounds a lot like a loose, or poorly connected wire.

You should really check your rca's if your running external amps as well as your ground if its a constant sound.

Did you ever get this sorted? I have an AVIC Z110BT that would make a sound like Space Invaders whenever the interior lights went out. My truck has dimming interior lights, and the subwoofer would make a tone that gradually got lower in freq and volume as the lights dimmed. Ended up rerouting the power for that amp and it resolved the issue. Funny thing is, I kind of missed it after it was gone. Not the snap, crackle, pop thing you seem to be describing but worth a look I think. Anyway, I'm assuming that the dimming circuit was coupling noise to the amp power line.
