I decided to pull the trigger today and put my name in for a 2014 RS7. Although pricing hasnt been offically announced I decided to get my name in early and ensure myself an allocation knowing the ballpark MSRP and option pricing from owning several Audis. I recently had a C7 A6 3.0 and while I loved it, it was too damn slow and if I wanted an RS6 (which Id love) I would need to move abroad and have a right hand drive. I contimplated purchaing an S6 or and S7 and tuning it but I really do like the RS look and feel versus a A/S7. Pricing should be released next week but heres what I tenativley chose. I was told I have a few weeks to change it if I make a last minute revision.

Congrats B45H1R. Sounds like its going to be a good looking ride. The power door closers are a seperate option (code GZ2) and is normally around $350 and well worth it. Did you get any tentative dates from your dealer? I was already #4 in line and they seem to think it will be around 6-8 months.

no dates. I was number 7 or 8 in the queue. I honestly went to the dealer to have them reset my TPMS warning light and walked around the dealership and ended up ordering a new car. I should stay out of dealerships I think.
I'm sure it will be awhile. No rush. Still enjoying the RS5.
Glad it wasn't the Porsche dealership cause I have a serious hard-on for the new 911 GT3.

I thought you could reset that right from the MMI; had same warning days ago and had to reset it (CAR menu I think).

Jay Slay, The Suzuka Gray will be a great color combo with the carbon package offsetting it and another great addtionan to your stable... I was also thinking Suzuka and still thinking of revising mine. Since your a loyal Audi customer did you dealer give you any idea of production numbers? My dealers seems to think theyll be even lower than the RS5 but they will know more this week since the West Coast dealer launch is this weekend in SF.. On these types of cars Im just usually happy with Audi Loyaltly money and free Audi care since there normally isnt much discounting on an RS car.. I really hope they dont try and pull the over MSRP game..

You can and I have in the past. But it's on my way from work and they hand check all the pressures and do a quick fluid check every time. I paid for that service package. Might as well use it.

You couldn't figure out how to order door closers because apparently, you can no longer order it. As of about 2 days ago, Audi updated the order guide and at least according to that, the option for power door closers and body-colored side mirror housings have been removed. I'm not sure how this will affect orders that have already been entered into the system with power door closers, prior to the change. I ordered that option a few weeks ago, so guess I 'll call my dealer on Monday to find out if that option is still in my order.
Also, not sure if you already know this but I was told that by ordering the cold weather package, you will no longer get the special RS design steering wheel. Instead, you will get the same heated steering wheel as what's on the A7/S7 with the same option, without an RS7 badge. I like badges, so I skipped the cold weather package even though I live in Chicago lol :)

Is the cold weather steering wheel still flat bottom? Or full circle?
Also surprised no carbon ceramic brakes option on RS7 but can get on RS5 :(

I don't believe so. My understanding is that the cold weather package steering wheel is a standard A7 non-perforated leather multifunction steering wheel. In order to match the non-perforated leather wheel, Audi even saw it fit to use a standard A7 shift knob as well. So if you order the cold weather package in the RS7, you lose both the RS flat-bottom steering wheel with badge AND the round RS-design shift knob. The 4/12/13 revision of the US order guide now highlights this detail.

The only application ceramic brakes would truly benefit is if your tracking the car...then there a nice option until you need a brake job that runs few a few grand.

I still wish for the carbon ceramic brakes though.
Also I think the Nardo grey is a great color. But I think I'm gonna go Audi exclusive on the paint.

You're my brother from another mother! I have the exact problem! I almost put a deposit on a GT3 but was told it would take a year. I was afraid I would wait so long I would no longer want it. Now debating between RS5, S6, Cayman S or Cayenne GTS.

Hello,
subscribing to the conversation.
I too am wanting to place an order for the RS7....or a 2014 R8v8. conflicted as to which should be parked next to our Q7.
I've reached out to our audi dealer here (military sales in europe) to see if he'll get any of the RS7s. Sometimes we dont get access to the good stuff. Hoping he'll get authorizations and that I'll get his first...if not, its an R8.
I see that you guys noted the change to the cold weather package. I'm thinking of getting the cold weather package and just ordering the RS7 shift knob from a local german dealer or going to the audi forum in neckarsulm. maybe the same for the steering wheel. Wonder why they did that. I was able to get cooled and heated seats for the Q7 but kept the perforated steering wheel.
Like to know the prices you guys are being given in the states, once they start to become available.

It is because the steering wheel is a heated version. You could obviously order it and swap out the wheel though...

Agreed regarding desirability. I get the impression he's posted in Europe, so he'll probably want to bring the car back to the States one day. If that's the case, he can only get a North American-spec car.

true. I'm military/DoD. We buy US spec cars tax free and typically a few percentage points over invoice. prices are fixed. I've been buggin' the hell out of our dealer to get me his first allocation, if he gets any. I'd love to be in an RS7 by august/september...so I can push it to the max on the autobahn...

Here's my guesstimate: $99k before options. The most expensive options being B&O (~$6k) and Carbon optic package (~$6-7k), with the rest of options at $1-3k each. Nicely optioned: $115k. Fully loaded car with daytona gray matte: $125k+

Put my deposit down, thinking matte gray vs red with carbon package, and high gloss back wheels, everyone says the matte gray is hard to take care of. wonder what snow and salt would do to the paint in the winter.

Congrats on the deposit. I would suggest Red or any other color. I wanted to do Matte as well buy after talking to some people and Audi they all confirmed and concluded its a bitch to take care of and you can never have it touched up. You get a scratch, rock chip or dent it has to be repainted. Just my .02
Did you dealer give you an ETA? I was told 4-9 months depending on allocation

Congrats to you also. Can't wait. I've also done a lot of reading and research on matte paint and yes, the maintenance seems to be a bear. I'm leaning towards Red as I saw a red rs5 at our last cars and coffee. It was really nice!! I have the first allocation at my dealer, they are saying Sept/Oct.

With the 4/12 revision GZ2 (power door closers) was removed, but the most recent 4/26 revision shows them back on again. Audi can't seem to make up their minds. If you originally ordered GZ2 in March and it disappeared from your order, contact your dealer to have GZ2 (power door closers) added again.
Here's the 4/26 revision of the order guide:

Anyone know what the suspension is like as far as performance goes? I've driven the S6/S7 and hated the suspension, even in Dynamic Mode. I'm hoping the air suspension on the RS7 will make the car more performance oriented and more track capable for DE's, etc.
TheChef
05-10-2013, 06:21 AM
My understanding is it will be pretty comparable to the S7 as the S6 and S7 also ride on air suspension. Of course the RS7 will likely lower ride height by 20mm or so but, that's nothing you can't do with a VAG COM on the S6 or S7 either as many now are. I like the S7's suspension a lot but I won't be tracking it - I can see where it can fall short. After the S7 then it will be time to eventually stick a proper two seat weekend car in the garage.

Yup, like Chef said, expect the US-spec RS7 air suspension to be more or less like the S7's. That's consistent with the info my dealer received during a recent training in Neckarsulm. The reason? I'm guessing Audi knows their target US buyer for the RS7 and that it's meant more as a relatively comfortable executive cruiser and daily commuter than a weekend warrior kind of vehicle. This explains why ceramic brakes have been ommited for the US market for the time being. This also explains why we won't get the optional sportier DRC suspension that European RS7 will get. Honestly, I think that's a good thing. With all the DRC leaking issues in the B7 RS4, I'm glad we won't have to roll that dice with the RS7. I still wish we could have ceramic brakes though.
I'm a track junkie, but have no plans on tracking the RS7 no matter how capable it may turn out to be. Just too heavy to be much fun compared to what most people are driving at DE's these days. The RS7 will surely dominate the straights but will be disappointing in the turns compared to what I'm used to driving. Unless it rains that is.
If you're looking for a dual purpose executive sedan that's also track-worthy, I'd look into the new M5 instead of the RS7 if I were you. It's also a heavy beast, but at least it's RWD and BMW ultimate service will buy you new rotors and pads after you destroy the original set after only 3-4 events :)

Disapointing that even with the "RS" version, the US still doesn't get the performance options. Audi really has a lot to learn STILL. It's one reason I left Audi and went to Porsche.

Not sure what people know about the engine, but it appears that the engine is more like the S7/S6 than the S8. I only see a single air intake instead of the characteristic dual air intake from the S8. I wonder how they are getting the 560hp? Is this just from a tune to increase turbo pressure, much in the way APR is doing it? Or have they changed any of the internals?

Have you seen an RS6 going around the track compared to a 911? Come on. If you are trying to track your Audi you are in the wrong brand there are many other more track worthy cars than Audis. I kind of agree with masmole. It is all about what fits the market. Even the carbon ceramic option. Most people who have tracked their S6 or S7 will tell you that the stock brakes are fine and therefore carbon ceramic is a $20K overkill option for a car that probably shouldn't see a track for any competitive purposes. You can always retrofit your car if you like with the euro performance options. Sometimes cheaper than the factory costs. I believe the RS ceramic brakes can be found for anywhere between $27K-$32K for both front and rears (which is probably overkill as well).

I know that at least in the older RS engines, audi used higher quality engine internals, forged rods, and operate to a significantly higher redline. An ECU remap and the higher redline account for the greater HP.

if your dealership has actually sold that many rs7s and you are anything past #2 in line at the dealer with a rs7 order, chances are its going to be a very very long time before you get your order allocated. if you even get it allocated at all.
Audi has been very specific that this car will be very limited and as I mentioned if the dealer already has more than 2 sold and the first ones wont even be here until fall, and the car hasnt even been allocated at all yet. than you have a really long time to wait. I'm #1 for both an RS7 and an SQ5. Already have commission numbers with "vehicle assigned" status for both. Repeat customer and have it in writing with deposit down long before the dealer even heard the word "RS7" from anyone else but me.

there is not one allocated SQ5 in the entire county. your car most likely is in I.S. order bank status, which means not allocated yet.
Also i believe the same for the rs7, just because they gave you commission doesnt mean the car has actually been slotted a allocation. Just mean the dealer is requesting one.
If you want I can look it up for you.
BTW, too awesome cars! so congrats as whenever you do go them it will still be awesome and badass

Congrats the RS7 and the SQ5. A commission number doesn't mean jack until the car is allocated and goes to production. I ordered mine a while ago with a deposit and it won't head to production for another month or two. A dealer can take all the orders in the world but most Audi dealers with only get 1-3 RS cars. Be thankful your #1 so you can get yours within the 4-8 month time frame.

Depends on the dealer and your relationship with them. But a few grand down is the norm on an RS
Since most dealers will only get a handful they run the risk of allocating a build and production unit that could be optioned strange or an ugle color combo that would be hard to sell or not very desirable if someone backed out...

Other than exclusivity you mentioned Im pretty sure you have the different seats, brakes, front bumper, mirrors and then what you listed.
You can always get an S car and tune it, you just run the risk of the all allusive TD1.
If you can get an allocation I say wait it out... Or grab an S6 and tune it and only have a 4-5 month order time versus the RS which will be 8+ months from what Im hearing.... Thats what I had on order before the RS5 and I decided to trade my Porsche in on it.
Whichever you do decide will be a four door rocket.

Congrats and nothing's been specified if this is even going to be an option for US builds.

Very nice of them, considering the S7 wont even have loyalty in 2014.

easy answer...resale value. never forget the modders paradox. you can spend X dollars on modifying your Y type car, but it will never sell for Y type plus mods. Mods are usually worth zero dollars on resale.
A simple S7 with an APR tune basically gets you an RS7, no denying that (short of the mirrors, steering wheel, grill, oval tips and badges). I think the internals are slightly different as well.
But what you lose is the cache of having an RS7 (if that kind of thing is important to you). Not a judgement, it either is or it isn't, just saying. You also lose the theoretical audi top of the line resistance to depreciation. It may just be my personal observation but I feel like the RS's hold their value better over the first year, while still very exclusive.
I also truly desire the RS6 avant. First wagon, I've ever wanted.

Congrats. In similar situation myself. One kid and wife has A7 so mostly use her car for kid haulin. Family about to grow again. Time to leave RS5.
Anyway, Audi of America doesnt give us all of the European options, they usually bring one or two packages for the RS models. The RS5 had an option for the higher limit in Europe but no option in the US, it just came with the highest limit. I'll bet for marketing purposes it comes with the super high European Dynamic Plus option.

You can place a real order, there is just no price yet. All of the options are known. Had the same deal with my current car, found out what I was paying while it was floating over here on a boat.

+1 and well said. Pricing will get released a few weeks before the car comes out and normally by that time yours is in route or half built.

Are you going to loose a lot for trading in your RS5?

Are you going to loose a lot for trading in your RS5?
Good question.
Guess I'll find out when the RS7 arrives and it's time to trade or sell. The private market is fairly good, but the tax penalty (in texas) for selling private might wipe out any potential savings.
Beware of the cold package. The cold package deletes the RS flat bottom steering wheel with perforation and shift know replacing them with stock A7 wheel and knob to support heated steering wheel. I am ordering today and so far I can't have heated rear seats if I want the RS7 wheel/shifter.
Ordered mine as well.
Esotril
Lunar interior
Whatever the pinstripe inlay is called.
Sport seats
Cold Weather (I live in Houston, but I cannot give up a heated steering wheel)
Driver Assist
Sport Exhaust
Heads Up Display
Alu-Optic
Couldn't Figure out how to order the door closers (maybe something I ordered earlier cancelled it out)
Stock Wheels since they will be off in 10 minutes anyway

Yup, they took it away early April, then put it back on late April. I actually had to have my dealer add it back on because it just disappeared from my order after the changes in early April. It would've been nice if Audi and their dealerships did a better job of making sure they communicated this changing info to customers. And I know I'm not alone in this. If it weren't for my obsessive stalking of various Audi forums, I wouldn't have known about the changes.

Okay so after reading this thread I am starting to question if the dealership is telling me the truth. About a week or two ago I was picking up one of my cars from service at Ray Catena and decided to stop at Audi on the way back. I ended up putting a deposit on an RS7. I was told I was the first one to put a deposit down on an RS7 and would have the first allocated order slot. After reading some of your posts, the dates are from over a month ago. Did I just get lucky or did the dealer BS me just so I would put a deposit down. I was also told the car was guaranteed to be delivered between October and December.

IMO, if you are one of the first to have a deposit then you will get the car between September and November. If you get a second slot, if they even get a second then you will have the car in December to February.

So launch date is different than ability to sale, right? I should be able to buy as soon as the final price is released and take delivery with the first batch around oct-nov....Unlike you all, I'm unable to put a deposit down thru military sales here in germany. I have to wait for a final price and then purchase...kinda screws someone stateside cause my allocation, if I buy, will come out of someones stateside allocation...

I was thinking base would be 105-109k and around 130-135k loaded. Hopefully U.S. pricing comes out sooner than later.

I spoke to my audi rep Saturday. Allocation was given to customers who have previously purchased from audi. Both my friend and I have purchased multiple audi's including the R8. If anyone is truly interested in the RS7 and can not find an allocation, PM me and I may be able to help.

My dealer was allocated 3 and Im #3 but that doesn't mean the dealer wont always get additional allocations especially since there a high volume dealer. They've already received 2 additional RS5's that I know of so I normally take their "allocation" numbers with a grain of salt. Regardless if a dealer has any open spot they'll sell out once the non Audi crowd gets word of pricing being announced and a production date.

so I got contacted by our european sales rep. told me i could put my money on an S7 and slide over to an RS7 when the pricing/ordering is open....dont think i'm gonna do that.
anyways, i was at audi neckarsulm two weeks ago. They didnt have an RS7 to show. that sucks. Plenty of other hot stuff. Lambos down to an A3. they must have had about 50 RS6's waiting to be shipped. so sexy...
i asked one of the exclusive/standard order reps if he had any idea of when the RS7 would be set free. he said, "no idea." I asked if he had a sales brochure. He looked under the desk and came up with a box - not even opened yet. He said they had arrived from the print shop a week early...no one had asked. So I took one. its a 65 page hard back book all on the RS7 and options. pretty nice.
one thing he did say was german's were complaining of not having an option for a bench back seat across the range. Apparently, they will be able to order a bench as standard in the next year.

I was at the dealer Wednesday finalizing my build and the dealer and still thinking a February or March delivery with me being #3 in line.
The first order they had went into production and should be stateside in late October. Cant wait to get a glimpse and check out the first one my dealer is delivering.
