got this little guy in the mail yesterday. its an alientech powergate. holds 3 tunes. stock and 2 modified files.
can be used to reflash at will and will also read dtc's from the ecu.

pc side software lets you save stock file from the device.
once you download the stock file from the device it can be modified, saved, and then loaded back to the powergate using the software.
no pc needed for flashing the ecu. just plug up the powergate after loading with files.
powergate is powered by obd2 socket.

pictures show me flashing my wifes car with it. [cool]

Nice! Sounds like an accessport jobbie for subarus. Could be nice for map switching without on-board routines.

So, This would be simply for switching files or would this basically be for those that want to DIY tune? Im confused as to the purpose of this product.

a little bit of both really. its a tool that you can carry with you to switch files if you do diy tuning so you dont have to lug a laptop and flasher around with you.
great for a end user that buys a package deal from their tuner (box + 2 tuned files) so they can switch tunes when they please.

if the ecu is already flashed will it read that file if its a regular tuned flash without encryption??

you need a 100% stock ecu. otherwise, whats the point?

Well Initially yes.But lets say I have a stock ecu I flash a tuned file to it but then I wanna take it further and flash a more aggressive file to the car or further edit the tuned file thats in there.I'm on nefmoto as well.

Also if you recieved tuned files are they in bin format or some other type of format??

if you flashed it, then you just use whatever you used initially and flash it back to stock. then start from fresh.

i made my own files.

Alright thanks!!So I will assume this will flash any file you may have??if you made your own file it will flash it.

it will flash a file that matches the original file, just the tuned version. you cant just randomly download files and think its going to work.

So your saying you have to modify the original file in order to be able to flash it??It will not take a stage 3 file ive read out of another car??

Stop trying to steal tunes!

EuroxS4
04-21-2013, 02:13 PM
Not stealing tunes!I own 3 Ecu's that ive purchased over the last couple of years as far as I know the are my property.Just comparing the ones i have to see what things different tuners changed and start making my very own.

Im only asking if the powergate will flash other tunes because as you mentioned its alot more handy than a laptop and nefmoto software and probably more reliable.

k0mpresd
04-21-2013, 02:15 PM
you want to read the tune from ecu a and flash it to ecu b? that is stealing. you are flashing a file to an ecu for which you did not purchase the file.
because if you werent trying to do that, you would go to a tuner and pay to have the ecu flashed.

unless of course, you tuned the files yourself. but im going to go out on a limb and say you did not make the tunes yourself.

I understand your point and its a valid one. However If I purchased 3 ecu's which were already flashed then technically I did pay for a flash but reproducing it or copying it is stealing yes.If I were to sell it.However this is not the case.

It has nothing to do with paying the tuner.Different tuners changed different maps and so on.I simply want to tune on my own.I think self tuning with enough time invested and understanding on a personal vehicle can yield great results perhaps better than some commercially available files due to the fact that your constantly working to improve to get more power out of the car.Where as commercially available tunes are base files that need to be further revised.

k0mpresd
04-21-2013, 02:21 PM
then you would just use the ecu that has the file on it originally, without copying it.

Well the ecu's i have are mostly mbox's and I have abox ecu in my car. They are not compatible.I am simply asking if this tool can be used to flash instead of a regular laptop and nefmoto software.

I am not using this for personal gain. But my wife is also complainign her car is a bit slow she has a b6 a4 1.8t this is why im asking.

I remember when I thought tunes were magic. I went about gathering as many examples as I could. Over time, I started looking at them for what they were. Garbage. I can honestly say the only files I now hang onto are those which I don't fully understand yet (AEB for instance). The rest I could care less about. If you're on nefmoto, create your own file. There's no need to save anyone else's files.

x2. Most companies just modify maps to make they car behave how they want to. Not necessarily the right way or how bosch intended them to be used. I found my OTS was mostly garbage as well.

Im currently still waiting for c2 motorsports to update the software in the powergate 3 purchased because when i purchased they did not specify that it does nto support me7.1 or me7.5 supposedly they are in the final stages of testing the software so i should be able to read my ecu soon.So hopefully ill be able to get a legit read on the ecu and start tuning on my own.
