Sorry for the messy title. I wanted to make it easy for other users to find this information with a google search.
I have a 2004 A8 and wanted to add Bluetooth telephone ability and bluetooth AD2P music streaming. The Viseeo MO-S1-A will allow you to do that.
It shouldn't matter if you have telephone or telematics or neither installed. For my car, I have the telematics installed.
I also have a cd changer installed, I think this is almost standard on all, but if you don't have one, some settings and steps may be different.
*You assume all risks by following my directions, you may have different results, I am not to blame. If you are unsure, just take the car to a professional.*
The actual installation was not very bad. If you are relatively handy in a car, it should not be that difficult.
Tools needed will vary, but here is what I used: Screwdriver with Torx 25 or 27, Bit wrench with Torx 25 or 27, mini-crowbar (very similar to a auto-trim tool), Ross-Tech Vag-Com connector and VCDS subscription(I highly recommend this, you will spend about 300-350, but it will be well worth it for this install and many other uses).
Also, make sure your MMI version is above 4000. Im not sure the exact number, but if its above 4000, then its good. Ebay has several options to update MMI. If you have any questions, email me.
First, remove the glove box.
-Remove passenger-side fuse box cover, theres a notch for a clean removal. There will be two torx screws here that you have to remove. You will see them clearly holding the glove-box in place.
-underneath the glove box there are 3 torx screws, you only need to remove the far-left screw.
-now open the glove box and take everything that is loose out(owners manual, cds, napkins, etc)
-underneath the cd changer in the main storage area at the back of the glove box are two torx screws. They are covered by two small covers that you can pry off easily with knife, mini-crowbar, or flathead. Remove these two screws.
-at the top of the glove box where the lip meets the dash are 3 torx srews pointing up vertically. Remove these.
-You should now be able to gently pull out the glove box. It may take some wiggling and finnessing, but you will get it.
Note: I have seen some posts at various Audi sites saying you have to remove the trim piece above the glove box. This is NOT TRUE. DO NOT remove this piece, there is no need. I am pissed that I read that you have to remove that, because I did and now it doesnt fit back quite right. There are several very delicate and small clips that break with the slightest tug. Don't take it off. If you're having trouble, email me. ([email protected])
Once you get the glove box off, remove the power cable that goes into the back of the cd changer and remove the fiber optic connection. Your Viseeo will have connector/splitters so you can connect as directed by the instructions. Connect your microphone line or run it first like I did and then connect. It was easier to run the small junction box plug opposed to running the microphone. There's a video on Youtube of the install portion, they install it on an A6, but it is fairly similar. To remove the dome light assembly, gently pry the frame of the dome light off. Then you will see the main assembly, there are two torx screws toward the front. Remove that piece and then run your microphone. I spent the most time on this step. It takes some time, be careful and gently pry the roof material as you run and get toward the A(?) pillar. I just pulled the pillar back some and ran the line through that in through the fuse panel and to the Viseeo junction box. Again, if you have any questions, dont hesitate to email me.
On the Viseeo box there is a dip switch. I have seen conflicting directions from official Viseeo documentation. Trust me, all dip switches should be up or in the off position if you have a cd changer. If you don't have a cd changer, Im not real sure what the dip switch should be, but if I guessed it would be number 8 down or on and the rest up or off. If you have a cd changer and another unit like a Denison, I think you will have number 8 down or on and the rest up or off. Again, I am not sure if your set up is not exactly like mine.
Your next step is to unplug your telematics unit. If you only have a telephone unit, I believe you leave it plugged in. The telematics unit is located in the floor under the floor mat of the driver. Remove the door trim that is just to the left of the seat. You will probably want to move the seat all the way back. Next, you have to remove the foot rest. There is one torx screw on the left and the rest just pops out. When you put this back, I suggest leaving the screw in footrest and then pushing the screwdriver up against it as it put it back in place. Next pull up the carpet as far as you can. On the floor you will see a black plastic box. You do not need to pull this out, only open the box. There are two push tabs on side closest to the back seat and two tabs closest to the front passenger. The box will swing open toward the door. Unplug the power and the two(purple and burgundy) connectors. How you leave it is up to you. I wrapped them in electrical tape to prevent anything getting to the connections. Put everything back. Again, please email me with any questions, I am glad to help.
The next part is the trickiest part, the VCDS coding. Take some time and read about the coding of VCDS if you have no experience with it. Be careful and do this step methodically. You can really mess things up beyond all repair except a costly trip to the Audi Stealership. Email me with any questions- [email protected].
Access 19-Can Gateway. Click on installed list and check 77-Telephone and uncheck 75-Telematics.
Access 7-Control Head. Accessing this was tricky for me sometimes. I may just have an intermittent communication issue, but I found that if I have the key in ignition, engine off, and turn the MMI off, then I can access this control. Go to Adaptation and choose channel 12. Read. New value is 2. Test. Save.
Staying in 7-Control Head, click on coding. New code is 0000303. Save.
Next run an auto-scan and save your report. Then clear all DTCs.
Next, turn on the car and MMI. I am assuming you have everything connected at this point. Reset the MMI. This is done by pressing TEL and main selector knob and the top, right soft button. Hold them all down and then release. The MMI will reset.
I have an iphone 5 and I was able to pair through my phone. The pairing pin is 1234. Dont worry if the Telephone on the MMI says "telephone not installed". The only drawback has been that I have to be quick when the MMI starts. By this I mean when you start your car you have to select Telephone as quickly as possibly and then select memory. I am assuming you have already paired your phone. It will take a couple seconds for MMI to upload your phone book, once it does try a call.
To access the bluetooth music streaming, click on CD/Aux. Then click on CD List. One of the cds listed will say Viseeo. Select this and you can start playing music. Pushing the main selector knob will skips songs, but I havent been able to see my music library uploaded. Another small drawback.
I spent 3 weeks trying to get this right. I purchased the unit on ebay from someone in the UK and their support was non-existent. So was the support from Viseeo. I finally emailed a distributor in Australia who connected with someone at Viseeo's parent company that could help me. My intent is to make the process much less painless for anyone that decides to go this route. So please, again, dont hesitate to email me. I will be glad to help.
I live in the Atlanta, GA area. I will be glad to meet anyone in the Atlanta area to update MMI and program the VCDS. If you do need help, please have your microphone installed, viseeo installed, and telematics unplugged. I will only assist with MMI upgrade and VCDS coding. :)
