Wonder if that's a similar mill to what's going into the facelift Panamera?

I approve, bring it! I wonder if the engine design is similar to the new Twin Turbo V8s, with the turbo's between the cylinders.

I wonder what kind of info this is though? The validity. That rendering was mickey moused galore.
That is sweet car. I would consider it for the next car.

Exactly the reason why I didn't jump on the current RS5. This will be a beast! APR will be all over this.
Stage 3 on this beast may hit 700HP.

This is it! The B9 RS5 would definitely be a candidate for my next car. Only question remain is How long is the wait?
Hood vent/scoop looks too WRXish in that render

Do you guys think the s4 will keep the supercharged v6, or will it switch to de-tuned twin turbo v6?

What will the B8 S4 APR Stg III bring? How will it compare to the B9? What will each cost? All questions to be answered in the next 18 months.

Supposed to be a detuned version of this. I heard the early rumors from Quattro GmbH that the B9 would be V6TT about 9 months ago, so not surprised to see this coming out.

Haha I like how the first thing people think of is how much more power you can get. I'm laughing because I thought the same thing lol
This only makes me want to go stage 3 that much more [:(]

Great news, thanks for the info. I would love an rs5 just not sure if I could lose the 4 doors. Want the brakes and bodywork of the rs5 though......maybe an rs4 will make its way back...

First, that is a crappy photoshop.
Second, its not rocket science to guess V6TT considering audi's current V8TT lineup.
Lastly, It needs to be four doors for me to even look at a daily driver.

Anyone notice the comment a out the S5 getting a turbo V6 at 328 hp. Seems odd that it's less than the outgoing supercharged V6.

No, Fourtitude mis-quoted the article which said power will be "340bhp from its turbocharged V6 (up from 328bhp). Its 0-60mph sprint time will be cut to 4.5 seconds."

Why don't they just take a page out of AMG's playbook and use the 4.0T? They say the 4.0T is small...

I don't see how the RS5 really competes with any of those cars. RS5 is supposed to be a real 2 door sports coupe, versus several executive sedans? Mercedes doesn't seem to have an issue doing it, they put the old 5.5K in everything, the 6.2V8 in everything, and now they are well on their way to putting the 5.5T V8 in everything, I wouldn't be surprised if they put it in a C-Class soon.
As for buying it, I'd rather buy another car with a twin turbo 6 cylinder...911.

Oh, I thought the article was about the B9 RS5. I don't see why they can't make the motor of an RS car the same as the next model up S car. They make the prices the same...
I mean the S6 has the 4.0t and the and the A8 also has the 4.0t. The RS6 has an up-tuned 4.0T and the S8 has an up-tuned 4.0T. Why can't the RS4/5 have the same motor as the S6? I think that would be fun.
As for the B9 S4 a new motor is cool, but I am honestly a bit surprised if not slightly concerned that they are appearing to go away from the 3.0 so quickly. Audi seems to like to keep motors around for quite some time. The 1.8t was around forever before they tweaked it somewhat to the 2.0t (afaik, at least) and then the 4.2 V8 was around forever in almost every Audi platform. The 3.0 seems like a solid motor and they have used it in the S4, A6, and A8 in Europe, but why such a dramatic move so fast? I guess going back to turbos is worth it to them. I wonder how big the internal changes are, I heard that they originally intended this motor to be turbocharged, hence the V6T badge.

Wait, CAR magazine (the source of this rumor) is a UK publication. Who says we'll get an RS5 in North America? Audi seems to like to deprive the New World of its best models (eg RS4).

The RS4 used to be available in the US too. Just because they give us one model year doesn't necessarily mean the next gen will be offered as well. (For the record, I hope is is though! This car looks good!)

Unfortunately I'll put my money on a MT not being offered at all in the next-gen car. Doesn't make business sense and Audi has been getting away from them in all the next-gen cars so far.
And a 7MT to go with it?

This looks promising. A simple turboback exhaust and tune should yield 600hp. Even better, a lighter ultra spec version. I was all set on getting the next generation c63 or whatever it'll be called but if that doesn't come with 4matic then this could be my next car.

This is great news ;) Hopefully current generation RS5's drop in value so i can buy one and go APR Stage 3 lol

04-07-2013, 04:33 PM
The 3.0T is based on the 3.2 V6 that's been phased out. It's a bit limited in technology - It has no VVT on the exhaust valves, for example. Audi wasn't prepared for the tuning of a TT on a completely new engine at the time, so a supercharger was chosen for the naturally better daily driving dynamics when it debuted in the A6.
They since have had a lot more time and knowledge due to the 4.0T.

That would seal the deal, but I am not hopeful. May be back in a Bimmer for my next purchase. BMW has stated that M-cars will continue to be available with 3 pedals. Maybe they are the "Ultimate Driving Machine" after all.

The next-gen M5/M6 will not have 3 pedals. The M3/M4 will have manual, fortunately. It seems that all of us MT enthusiasts will have to migrate from Audi to BMW!

I vastly prefer the drivability of a supercharger vs. turbos, I'd have to think hard and see what else is out there before pulling the trigger. Do you think Audi's getting out of superchargers completely in the B9's?
Leor604
04-07-2013, 09:14 PM
I started a thread a couple weeks ago about the B9 powertrain details. Automobile mag reported that S models will retain the 3.0T, but RS models will have the 4.0TT replacing the NA 4.2. I also prefer SC, but from all reports, the new turbo motors with the reverse flow heads are very responsive with little or no lag.
The 3.0T is a wonderful engine and won a number of awards. I don't think Audi would dump it so soon unless a turbo motor was more fuel efficient and had lower emissions. Everything these days is being driven by economy and emissions standards (including the disappearance of MT) but I don't think a turbo motor would have any huge advantage in these areas. In fact, being linear in its characteristics, I would think an SC motor would be easier to control.
Contradictory info. Guess time will tell who had the better intel.
Next car will def be this.
Edit: Did not know MT would not be offered.
