hi, i just purchased a 04 S4 cabriolet and its been giving me nothing but trouble and the dealership isnt cooperating. yet at least.
Well my problem here is i notice the car had its oil pressure light coming on with normal driving. but i read into it and found out it might be sludge buildup. so i got some Zmax to help clean it out. and now it only goes off at high rpm and under higher load. Expecting an oil change but the motor will need to be fix anyways..
i noticed a knocking sound from the back of the engine after a long drive so i stopped the car and let it sit. after a while started the car and it went away. made it to the dealership for a diagnostics and they said the timing chain tensioners are going out. the engine started getting random misfires also and cel flashing.
the engine has been smoking a bit since ive got it. seems like white smoke and i can smell fuel when it smokes. i was wondering if the it has to do with the timing being off or something else? so i can decide weather to fix the motor or not.
I need your opinions and expertise. please chime in thanks!! And ps I checked compression one left head since it started misfiring that side and got 130ish on all 4 cylinders on driver side

Well fixed the problem. Timing components failed. Bent 2 valves in bank two

overly complex engineering is one reason the stupidass germans lost WW2.
apparently they still haven't learned how to do things right, at least as of 2004.
fail.
how much did it run you to fix?

Yeah tell me about it. Audi quoted me for 9k just to fix the timing components. Brought it to a small European auto shop and they only charged 4200-ish. Picking it up tomorrow. They replaced all the chain guides and the tensioners plus the cam adjusters since one was bad and the other was on its way out. They had the head sent to a machine shop to reseat two valves that bent. I had an aftermarket warranty that covered 2000 of the repairs so I actually made out ok. Paid 13k for my 04 cabriolet in practically perfect condition. So about 15k for a 04 cabriolet with a new engine pretty much.

how'd the warranty company get away with only paying out 2 grand?
thank you for the info

Well I had an aftermarket warranty. And it only covers 2000 for repairs per event. It's only 225 for a 3000 3 month warranty so I'm kinda glad I had it. I'm getting an extension to a year probably after I get the car back

No problem. Car runs great now. Now I won't have to worry about the motor the the remainder of the cars life. Shouldn't anyhow.
