Hood stuck closed

Hey guys, I went to open my hood today and it just pulled and didn't pop up. Now the pulley thing is loose and the hood won't open. Is there a way to open from underneath the car?

Can you grab onto the release cable behind the handle with a pair of grips to at least get the primary latch to pop?

I'll give that a try in the morning but I think it's already pulled as far as it can go....it's very loose when I pull it

If your careful you can remove the front grill and maybe get to the hood release. Don't quote me on that but unless you can get to the release cable under your dash it may be your only option. Hopefully the cable didn't break somewhere between the handle and the release mechanism :-/

Well I tried pulling the cord under the dash with plyers and that didn't work... I'm pretty sure I will ruin the grill if I take it out from the outside

Just had the same jolly ole' time with my A4. battery died, hood cable snapped, in downtown, and snowing. FML. Taking the grille off didn't help in my situation. I had to take off my valance and get at the latch itself with a very long extension to release it. Not sure about the A6's though.
